New Dogtown Pale vs Lagunitas IPA?

    OK Ok...technically not apples to apples for those of you knit-pickers out there.

    For me, New Dogtown could easily fit the bill of a solid IPA at 6.2% I find the hop profile more tropical, the finish more crisp, and just an all around better beer than the staple Lagunitas IPA. Just me opinion, no right or wrong answers here.

    Assuming both beers are fresh, what say you?

    They should put new dogtown in the IPA bottles and replace the new dogtown sku with sucks.

    The formula for Dogtown Pale Ale was revamped a few years back and replaced with New Dogtown. It's ABV is the same as the IPA but it's actually a little higher in IBU's (47 to 45) and the hops are supposedly more prominent than the IPA. That was done at the same time they moved Maximus to six packs from bombers and introduced Hop Stoopid as their new Imperial IPA bomber entry. IPA was and is entrenched as their flagship beer and their best selling brew in California so they decided not to change it and that probably explains why New Dogtown seems a little more "lively" at this point.

    I hope they release the Mosaic Pale as the New New Dogtown. I prefer the mosaic to the IPA, but the pale and the IPA are a toss up for me.

    Honestly had the IPA only once, and the New Dogtown several times; it's definitely an IPA in APA labeling.

    They are both just so damn tasty. I love the New Dogtown but every time I get the IPA I'm never disappointed with my choice!

    Lagunitas can do no wrong with their hoppy brews, including these two. That being said, New Dogtown is a better beer than the IPA.

    I actually just re-discovered the Dogtown after a recent trip to the brewery. I've been drinking the hell out of it since.

    Going to have to go with Dogtown. The nose on it is crazy good.

    Fresh and on draught, Lagunitas IPA dumps all over Lagunitas New Dogtown Pale Ale. The volume of sweet, subtle, citrus with that creamy, but robust mouthfeel is just second to none...except Sucks, of course.

    Lagunitas IPA is a good drink, but New Dogtown is heads and shoulders above imo.

    I'd take Lil Sumpin, Maximus, and sucks over IPA any day. I haven't had New Dogtown, but IPA is one of the weakest offerings by Lagunitas, imo.

    It's crisper because it doesn't carry as much malt as the IPA, thus why it's an APA.

    I prefer Maximus to either of these 2 beers, just my opinion.
