Anyone know the story behind this beer? How does the CBX(Charleston Beer Exchange) reference on the label fit in to everything? There has got to be more to it than "Westbrook is located there". It's not even in Charleston anyway. I've read a few places and no one has a good explanation and I didn't think to ask while in CBX last week while there. Possible explanation for the brewing/bottling process too or if "mini growler" is just a clever name
This is the only thing I can find on it: http://chsbeer.org/beer/westbrook-brewing/mini-growler-imperial-stout-evil-twin-collaboration
We (Westbrook) brew for evil twin and are friends with cbx. Evil twin is also friends with cbx. I'm pretty sure Jeppe crashes with one of the owners when he's in town. So this is a collaboration between us and ET and since we are all friends we threw them in the mix. The story as i know it is cbx was counter pressure filling 22oz bottles off rare kegs so more people could get them instead of the standard growler. They called them minigrowlers. Anyway someone on rate beer (I think) started a whole to do about how they shouldn't be doing it cause if the breweries had wanted 22oz releases they would have done it themselves but from what I hear they got all the breweries blessings to do it. I believe Jeppe was in on the thread as well. The quote on the bottle is from those threads. So basically all 3 of us are great friends so we all pitched in on the beer. That help?
Also the label is the label that cbx would use to bottle the "minigrowlers" when they used to do them. Just a standard label and they would write on the label what it was
I understand that Mt. Pleasant and Charleston are two different cities is what I meant, even though they border. Anyways, thanks for the info....pretty interesting little story behind it...figured there was something cool around if after visiting the store and seeing everything.
It's kind of the same idea as saying you live in Brooklyn. It's still NYC but you say Brooklyn. There are many areas around charleston like west Ashley and James island but its all basically charleston
From what I understand its a one time offering but if you can get someone in Charleston to trade wit hyou, I saw it sitting on shelves as of friday at their TW Lots of good local beer in that area too...I got lucky enough to hit CFB on their SC tap takeover while there. COAST Whole Milk Stout and HC Pluff Mud Porter were on point......brought home some Westbrook IPA, Dave Brown, Cap'n Skoon and Carnie Fire
