They're my top choice for brewery that I'd like to see disappear into a black hole.

apparently im in the minority that likes pumpkinhead. i think it tastes very similar to schlafly pumpkin which everyone seems to love. cant say that ive had many other shipyard beers, but pumpkinhead and smashed pumpkin are decent.

Well obviously it's not just Mainers, but my god Mainers and the tourists who go there in the summer drink that swill up like it's the fountain of youth. And yes, they sell a stupid amount of Pumpkinhead

Haven't had melonhead, but applehead came in my beer of the quarter club. Awful. Trying to figure out if I can cook with it for the other 2 bottles. Maybe beer battered onion rings wouldn't be too bad with artificial apple flavor...

Curious if it was a blind tasting?

Wow..not much love on here for Shipyard. Their rep. was here on Friday night, and opened a bottle of the watermelon beer. Was it great, no, but it was tasty...something I'd drink on a hot day after mowing the lawn. Sometimes that's all a beer has to be..ya know? It doesn't have to be world class to be good to drink. Lighten up, folks. Have any of you had their BBA double ESB??? It's really good!

Drinking excessive amounts of Shipyard can make you go blind.

You want a fruit beer that tastes like jolly ranchers to be heavily hopped???

Sounds like a reverse psychology attempt to market Melonhead. Do you work for Shipyard?

As some others have stated, not my favorites, but I've always found Prelude and Export to be decent beers. Plus I love Portland. All beer tastes better to me in Portland in August.

After I tried Pumpkinhead, I figured the rest of Shipyard was bad. For God's sake, Blue Moon Pumpkin is better.

I completely agree that something doesn't have to be world class to be good to drink. But what it sounds like the OP is saying is that even in the "post mowing the lawn on a hot day" category this beer falls flat.

If this melon beer is anything like their pumpkin beer then I will stay miles away from it. If it's a 100 degrees out and I am doing yard work I will reach for SN Summerfest, a Sam Noble Pils, a Bitburger, a 'Gansett Summer, a Brooklyn Summer, etc.

To be fair, I do think Shipyard's Export Ale is good. It doesn't score well here on BA, but I think it's a tasty brew. Unfortunately, that's where my Shipyard purchases start and stop.

Don't even bother to buy a single... Just wait until you attend a cookout this summer and some naive 23-year-old brings a six-pack thinking that everyone will love this "crisp" and "sweet" summer beer!

(Oh, and you know they will...)

People who visit Maine in the summer? Do you mean people from Mass? Also pumpkin head isn't released until mid august so...

I'm not saying I like pumpkinhead, I don't, but Shipyard was my craft gateway. In college I got made fun of for bringing sixers of Old Thumper to parties when everyone else had PBR and Coors light. As a company I respect shipyard they do a tone of chairity work and have done even more to promote beer in Maine if someone enjoys Pumpkin head I'm not going to chastise them for their taste.

Well then you must either like the flavor of diacetyl or not be as sensitive to it as some of us, because that beer is public enemy number one as far as d-bombs go. Shit is gross.
