At the risk of beating the same dead horse, I'm looking to devise a daily beer regimen for Monday-Friday (I'll drink higher-end stuff on the weekends). I'm doing this for my health...honest. Does anyone know a really cheap beer that's pretty good, preferably available in the Houston area. I'm on a budget, and I'm not that picky...just something that is enjoyable and dirt cheap. Thanks again.

    Define... cheap?

I usually drink 6-packs of Hops & Grain during the week at $7 a piece. Alt. Pale Dog. Zoe. I think you guys get that now.

Sierra Nevada Pale Ale/Torpedo both seem to always be cheap around here too at $12-$15 a 12-pack (HEB usually has them for $12 at least once a month).

Now that a much larger HEB is opening tomorrow within spitting distance of my house, I'll keep an eye out for that. Sierra Nevada at that price would be sweet. By cheap, I mean a beer that I can derive at least some pleasure from at the lowest price possible without getting the urge to hurl. I've kept the bar high.

If you are doing it for your health and not your wallet, why not just give yourself some days off?

Growler fills might be the way to go. The initial cost of purchasing multiple growlers would be somewhat high but overall effective at cutting costs.

You're concerned about your health AND you're looking for a 7 day a week "beer regimen"?

    You're doing it wrong.

His wife is probably going to beat him if he keeps spending so much on beer... I get that a lot.

If he just drinks one a day, there might be some potential health benefits.

If you're looking for uber-cheap, I think Genesee Cream Ale is around $6/6 pack and it's not awful, though it's not great either.

If you want more crafty brews, refer to the Sierra Nevada comment above (beware the date though, as many stores place these on sale when they're old) or buy a Lagunitas bomber for under $5 here and there.

I have to repeat this because I did the same. I've lost a few pounds simply from cutting back to 1-2 beers a week, and I do at least an hour of cardio daily or every other day. I also try to split 22oz bombers or 750ml bottles with other people so I'm not slurping down 600+ calories of beer.

That and when I cut a huge portion of processed food out of my diet.

Seems to me if health is a concern, cheap beer isn't the way to go.
Better quality ingredients="healthier" beer. I've never believed in going cheap on what goes into my body, no matter what the reason.

Thank you. That's exactly what I was going for. You'd think these BA's would know that moderate drinking, particularly beer, has numerous health benefits...alcohol is good for the circulation, hops are good for the joints, studies seem to suggest that moderate drinking can ward off Alzheimers, moderate drinkers live longer than non-drinkers etc etc.

I rarely ever buy a 12 pack, but if I do... it's Full Sail Session.

New Belgium Shift. I discovered it when playing golf a while back as it was the only craft option. It's crisp and refreshing and definitely falls into the cheaper category of craft beer. Overlooked beer.

Infinite growlers of Live Oak Hef, man. $11/2L at Growler Room during happy hour. Quality/price ratio couldn't be higher, IMO.

    Clonies: Sorry babe; no cardio.

Session is alright, but I don't buy them just because Full Sail keeps sending Cease & Desist letters to breweries using the word "Session Ale" to describe their beer because, supposedly, they got a copyright on it.

    That's really dumb.

...but Black Gold is pretty good. Particularly on tap. It was only ~okay~ from the bottle.
