Depends. How much do you care about messing it up? I'm sure you can make something drinkable. Will it end up being a berliner wiesse? Maybe.
My first was a tripel. It was drinkable at first, terrible now. My second was a wheat beer that is still drinking nice a year later. I'd go simple. Pale ale, wheat beer, amber ale.
I'd say IPA is a good choice for a first brew. Hops will cover up all sorts of off flavors (to a point).
My first was a Nut Brown. Really simple and tasted like a brown ale should. Nothing fancy, but still good. Hefewiezen's are pretty simple also.
Not too hard, just too long to wait IMO. You can do one with 100% Wheat DME, small hop addition & a BW blend. For the OP: Hefeweizens are crazy easy. 6# Wheat DME 1 oz any noble hop @ 60 Ferment with WY 3068 (c) HB42 All Rights Reserved
Wheat beers using only extract and a small amount of hops are surprisingly delicious. Better to make a simple beer that's good to drink for your first beer than make a complex one that comes out tasting like dog-doo. The simpler your process for your first few beers, the better off you'll be.
