Now that Beer Karma is back, I was thinking it might be better to base beer trading posting privileges based on it.

What does the community think? What would be a reasonable minimun of Beer Karma a member would need to accumulate in order to gain privileges?

    Cheers!

Certainly it should indicate a constant investment in the site. 50 points doesn't seem too bad, but I'd be more likely to vote for 100 points. Shows the individual has been posting and/or rating with some frequency.

    I think it's a great idea.

I'd go for an even higher number - maybe 250.

Good idea. Does subscribing to the magazine still give karma?

Sounds good to me and I'll be under any minimum beer karma...will just help me stick with my regular trading partners and BIFs. Ohhh did I just get a beer karma point :sunglasses:

    Great idea.

Make it 100 points and a non-2012 or 2013 join date for posting privileges.

I'll be the black sheep here and say it doesn't sound like a good idea. There are some people that have been on this site for some time but don't post much or at all. They also don't rate beers or places. From my understanding of Karma this may impact those people and thus take away their privileges if they don't have the required karma? I prefer to keep it like it is, or incorporate a way for tenured people to keep their trading privileges without having to comment or rate beers/places.

Then they would just need to put a little into the sight to get the karma points needed. Review a few bars/breweries/beers, and they'd be good to go.

The flip side of that is you get quick shitty reviews just to earn points.

This is what I'm thinking as well. People will just do whatever is easiest to get the required karma. It could even encourage fake reviews.

Any time there is a prerequisite to get from point a to point b, people will scam the system

I cannot believe I am saying this, but I think this is a bad idea.

I just went through my list of some trader buddies and MANY have less than 50 karma points but have been members for a long while.

We have already added requirements for posting change in the last year.... Why change requirements again?

I'm largely indifferent, but I don't think subscribing to the magazine should earn you any Beer Karma Points (is this still the case?) and, thus, posting privileges.

Awful idea. Lots of the best traders do not have much karma. And subscribing to the magazine to potentially work towards access to the trading forums is ridiculous. If you want us to pay to have access to the site, just do it that way.
