I had this waiting in line for KBS and it was probably the highlight of my day (other than getting some KBS of course). I read some average review of this beer and I just don't get it. I have a bottle at home I am sitting on, but now I think I need to focus my efforts on getting more of this. I had a lot of high quality beers while waiting in line (Black Note, BlackOps, vintage DL, etc) and this was by far the best. What do some of you guys not like about it?

And anyone that wants to get rid of a bottle hit me up...

I love it, but it's really big so I can see why some people don't.

I agree, I believe it went overrated for so long that it had the reverse effect and is now being rated lower then it deserves as a direct result from being so hype and high rated before.

Edit: I realize I might not have made my point clear or sensible but trust me I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night

A 98 overall is not underrated...

My thoughts exactly. It's a very highly rated beer.

I've never had Black Tuesday so I can't comment for sure, but I laugh when people complain that a beer that is 18+% ABV is "boozy".

It's like... what were you expecting??

    "Underrated"

This is physically impossible. In my 5 years on BA, I've never seen a beer get even close to the amount of hype as Black Tuesday. It's still ranked 35th, with a score of 98.

If Black Tuesday is underrated, then every decent beer out there is underrated.

It's a bit of a big sweet boozy mess, so that simply isn't going to be appeal to every last living craft beer soul.

While I don't think it's terrible, I find it quite under-attenuated and boozy with nearly no roasted malt flavors.

I found it to be way overly sweet. If it wasn't for that sweetness it would probably be one of my top 10 favorites. I didn't find it to be boozy in the least and the complex flavors are very awesome. Just that damned sweetness.

If anything, it's overrated. It's a very unique and interesting beer. It's also crazy boozy, and incredibly sweet. I enjoy it, I doubt I'll buy a full allocation of it this year (unless I end up using it for trade bait.)

I haven't been able to snag a bottle, but it did really stand out to me with the little bit I had at last GABF, so I can see where you are coming from.

So are you saying those are bad things? Someone else could give that exact description and absolutely love the beer. It's all a matter of taste

i don't know about overrated / underrated, but i do think that wide availability would have a huge effect on the perception of black tuesday.

the people who like it, love it, and would buy tons of it. it's a beer with so much complexity that you want to sit and spend hours on it (which you have to anyway because it's so thick and boozy).

the people not after something so brash would lose interest in trying it (because it's not rare), and everyone would be happy.

Posting threads like this bother some of our more sensitive posters, so please refrain from said postings in the future.
    You'll make Pahn much calmer.

    [edit]
Dammit, moments too late to get in before a surprisingly calm post. Who knew.

I can understand why someone may like that, but I tend to like less boozy, roastier beers with balanced sweetness.

BT is more of a sweet, dessert-y decadence.
KBS is more toasty and earthy, oak bitterness. Reminds me of Silva Stout.

    I love all three.

I've been able to try all 3 vintages and have never been impressed. It's just too sweet for my tastes and I've never been impressed with the mouthfeel.

vast majority of my posts are "calm" (all of them are calm, but i'm assuming you're referring to arguments, which to really-interesting-people on the internet marks the posts as "worked up"). also, no idea who you are, but i suppose i should be flattered--rather than creeped out--that you know who i am.

I don't think it has to do with sensitive posters but I'm not sure I understand a lot of these threads (especially this one). The rating is almost perfect so I'm not sure how it could be underrated. There are beers I find have ratings lower than I expect because I think it's a great beer, but they are rated by multiple people not just one. I think some reviews can be a bit harsh simply because a person doesn't like one aspect of the beer or simply doesn't understand it which can impact the score negatively, but I think it's safe to say the majority of beers with a significant amount of reviews have the correct rating.
