I liked Batch 19 the first time and the second time it was just ok (6 packs each time)...thought Third Shift was poor the first and only time (6 pack) I had it..not quite Third Shit but not far off when you factor in price....my vote goes to Batch 19 but I doubt I'll buy it again....Sam Adams and many others in the same relative price range are better...

Now I remember why I stopped contributing to the forums on this site. People ask questions about something and you get smart ass responses for no other reason than to be a dick because they dont drink "macro" beer. Well arent you so provicinal. Guess what? I drink all beer. I dont give a shit how big or small the brewery i. Last I checked this is BEERadvocate, not Craft BeerAdvocate. Its safe to say we all drink beer here, if you dont like it then why bother commenting?

I've been a user here for almost 7 years now and the comments on this site have become increasingly boorish and unhelpful with each passing year. Comments like the ones made by BottleCaps80 here (created 4 months ago) are just a small example of a growing problem here on BA. I really hope the troll accounts like Mr. BottleCaps are rounded up and banned because they provide nothing of value to this site.

Definitely agree with this. It does taste like a "poor man's" BK Lager. Reminds me a bit of Yuengling as well. It is actually quite a competent beer. I would be happy if Batch 19 was the norm instead of the regular adjuncts out there.

Haven't tried either of them, but I will in the future. I'm not against trying everything once.

Don't even get me started on the "domestics" definition...it used to just exclude micro/craft but even the BMC stuff that's not their light or main is really not considered "domestic" the whole thing needs to be redefined in these places or a name change is in order...a deal on cheap beers now even cheaper.

Can we all just assume there is a list of everyone who is against any and all things to do with large beer corporations, and that it is no longer necessary for these folks to just jump in to discussions with nothing more to say than that they hate large beer corporations?

Can the folks who are so proud of their large beer corporation hatred just assume that we all have a list with their user names, and they can give their self-congratulating a rest?

Back to the question... I have had both. My uncle works for miller so every family get together he brings free beer. Its not bad and its free so i don't complain. I have had both of these beers. To me, batch 19 is more like an american amber, hoppy with some bitterness. Third shift is less hoppy, bitter, but goes down a little easier (I'm not a fan of true ambers anyway). They are not my favorite beers or my first choice, but they are not terrible. Some people won't drink them because they are from BMC. That's fine because that's their opinion, but some of these threads crossed the line into snobbery and I definitely don't like that.

I have yet to try either, but I plan on it. The problem is that anywhere that has either on tap, well...they also have Sam seasonal, or Boston Lager, or anything else that I already KNOW I like. If this were a SN or SA/BBC release, they've earned my trust to shell out $2-5 to give something on tap a try.

I know, I'm really picky. And don't criticize my draft choices; we don't have a ton of craft options on tap where I live, so when Sam seasonal is an option, it's usually an easy choice for me (hmmm........Bud, Miller, Coors, Shock Top, or Sam Adams....hmmmm....).

Last time I checked, this wasn't "HappyBeerTalkOnly" either.

And as long as we're going to request that BAs who post snarky comments be banned, how about banning the people who continue to insist that if someone doesn't like the taste of a certain style, they're automatically a "beer snob"?

I have had both beers. IMHO, both beers are American Amber Adjunct Lagers (like Yuengling Lager, Shiner Bock, Michelob Amber Bock, etc.). I do think that Batch 19 has a bit more of a hop presence than Third Shift Lager. I would not state that the two beers taste the same but they are not too far apart. Does it make sense that MillerCoors has introduced two new beers that are so similar?

In a past thread I opined that I think that the BMC breweries are trying to jump on the AAAL bandwagon with their new beers of Third Shift Lager, Batch 19, and Budweiser Black Crown. I speculated that the marketing people took note of how much Yuengling is growing every year and they want their ‘piece of this pie’.

    Cheers!

It's one thing to not like a style and avoid it, but I don't think an industry segment is considered a style. There may be a drinkable beer out there by the BMC folks, even for the purist, "I only drink hard to find expensive beer bottled less than 72 hours ago" crowd. As a generalization, I tend toward the micros, but some of them are getting so big and popular, that they may not be "micro" anymore. The louder and longer we demand that there be an increase in production of the "Pliny, KBS, DL, Heady" products, the more that they are becoming "big beer companies." Then what do we do?

I will try any beer once, as long as it's not a cider/fruit beer.

I know there's a lot of smart ass bickering about the validity of this post because it involves macros. Beer is beer, let's compare. Batch 19 hands down. I do however take issue with the op's choice of hockey teams. BOO WIiNGS!

That was basically what they had at the place I went to ... with Third Shift. I like Sam Adams fine and well, but I wanted to try something new (They had Lager, Summer Ale, Cherry Wheat).

And for the record, I'm not a big fan of AAL's or many beers made by "The Big Three", but I'll try anything once.

I'd try them, if they had cooler names and better artwork. Marketing fail.
