    Good morning you malty muthas!,

Gray, windy and chilly here in Mid-MI. Not exactly Mother's Day BBQ weather as I had hoped. More like fireplace and stout weather. Or maybe a quick jaunt for a beer and part of a ball game before our family dinner at 6pm? Whatever it is, it's gotta include some good (NEW) beer.

Speaking of a quick beer jaunt, the wife and I enjoyed our first motorcycle ride of spring last Sunday afternoon. The Walldorff brewpub in downtown Hastings, MI is always a scenic route on the bikes. And to my surprise, every beer I tried (sampler size) was solid. This isn't a passive-aggressive bash, but over the past year or so, their brews have been very hit and miss. I'm going to inquire if they hired a new brewer, or maybe they did and he/she is finally coming into their own? Whatever the case, I bought a couple of howlers to go. The Cobain black IPA and Grapefruit Ale were my choices, and the Grapefruit didn't last through the night. Maybe I'll revisit for a couple this afternoon?

My local, The Soupspoon Cafe in downtown Lansing, tapped a firkin of New Holland Dragon's Milk last Friday, which was mighty tasty. I never had it on the firkin, it was a nice switch. I still prefer a bit more carbonation though, but the cellar temp was perfect. Bell's Red Nose and Arcadia's Thunder Trail (both ESBs) were on tap and very flavorful. Arcadia's was more carmely, while Bell's was cleaner and hoppier. Brewery Vivant's Hubris Anniversary Ale was very tart and warming (13%) - perfect for a cold rainy evening. Kuhnhen's Loonie Pale was my fallback though. The Soup Spoon's got some great Michigan brews that are constantly switching and always fresh. Don't miss their KBS breakfast on Tue May 21st!

Will momma be drinking a beautiful new beer for her special day? Or will you make her day extra special and then try to include a new beer somewhere in the celebration? What's your mom or wife's favorite craft beer? My wife is still a mixed drink and wine type. But when she enjoys a beer, it's definitely not hoppy. She likes a bit of sweetness, but not fruity. Basically a smooth golden ale, or maybe an American wheat ale. I oftentimes wonder if it would be a mixed blessing to have a spouse who's beer passion matched or surpassed mine? She doesn't have to work out quite as hard to maintain her fitness, as I do. And she still looks 10X better than me.

Pop open a brand new beer and try and come back here (after you've drunk it) and tell us your thoughts, be it links to its formal review, pics and/or colorful commentary. But whatever you do, you better put that woman first today. And if she enjoys great beer, well then, live it up! And if your plans today include a brewpub stop with her, well then, God bless ya! Happy Mother's Day, moms! Good day and good drinkin'!

In the undying spirit of a mother's love,

    malty

I've got no link, but a great little brewery here in Grand Rapids called the Mitten has an amazing IPA on tap. The beer is a colaboration beer for beer city voting and its called 555555513..,very long name, but in short it taste 99% like zombie dust. I know brewmasters don't go directly after someone else's beer, but this happened to be spot on. It won't last long, so if your in the area I would stop in for this beer! They also have a great (I)PA called eighty-four that's a mainstay.

    Cheers,

Greetings fellow NBSers! A cloudy, and sometimes showery, day here in the Fourth Corner, with temps over 60. We had a very nice week, weather-wise, lots of sun and warmth. Personally, I had a somewhat up and down week. Found out late last Sunday that a 21 year old co-worker had died in a car crash the previous night. So I spent a far bit of time this week being a shoulder for the rest of the staff, and doing some odd support jobs to help out.

On a happier note, I worked a couple days in my part-time job as a stage hand on the musical Beauty and the Beast (which involved it's own set of adventures), and my favorite songwriter was in town for a gig. The day after the gig I was able to show Chris Kokesh and Jonathan Byrd around my town, and we all had ice cream for lunch, a very pleasant day.

My first NBS entry today is a very nice Red Ale from the beer mecca of Bend OR. I could drink a few of these, for sure: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/25979/93432/?show_hads=N

And here's a taste of JByrd and Chris performing as the Barn Birds:

Great beer for a warm Jersey Spring afternoon.
The blood orange adds an extra level of citrus that competes with the hops.
Very drinkable and at 5.4% it is sessionable.
I see a lot more of this in my fridge this bbq season.

NEW BELGIAN STRONG PALE ALE SUNDAY

Greetings and happy mothers day were applicable. Unseasonably cool and breezy here in PA dutch country, but at least the sun is out. Sorry for your loss beertunes, thats way too young.

Since my wife has only been a mother for five and a half weeks, she only qualified for a minimal amount of mothers day love attention. I thought about two hours worth was fair. I believe that holidays should be prorated. This leaves me free to enjoy lots of new beer. Kidding of course. I did find time to enjoy this while spoiling my wife though.

    Cheers and happy NBS all!

Warm day here in Upton, MA at 70 degrees and sunny with a nice breeze! Just got back from a comfortable 2 mile run and thought it was time to crack open a brand new on this fine Mother's Day Sunday!

Founders Breakfast Stout. MAN this thing is full of coffee coffee coffee with some nice, smooth cocoa and you get the sweetness of the oatmeal more and more as it warms in the glass. Fantastic new brew!

Greetings brothers from other mother's! Hope you are enjoying a fine NBS and Happy Mother's Day as well.
Froze my keyster off at a flag football and soccer game this afternoon. Came home and warmed up with this beauty. Didn't get the plums but it was a nice porter from ST.
Hope you are all having a great NBS with something new and tasty in your glass!

    New American IPA Sunday

Greetings NBSers and Happy Mothers Day to all Mothers out there!

Slightly cool and breezy day in the Greater St. Louis area, but beautiful sunshine. My wife wanted the kids and I to take her downtown to a see if we could grab lunch at one her favorite spots - either Bailey's Rooster or Range. Ended up at the Range, which was less crowded, and had a great burger. I was lucky to also have a couple of pints of this fine IPA from a local brewery:

A solid IPA and I'm starting to become a big fan of 2nd Shift.

    Cheers!

Awesome Mother's Day in West MI. Maybe a little chilly, windy, and overcast. Still had a nice visit from the in-laws, and the holiday plans have been a hit with my wife. Even a couple of cruddy showings from the Tigers won't get me down today.

Very so-so beer today. While it was new to my local shelf, finding out it was at least previously a winter seasonal, makes me wonder if fresher will be better. Maybe a re-review will be in order this winter.

New American Porter Sunday here at the Jersey Shore!

Greetings to the NBS group on a beautiful Mothers Day here in Ocean County, NJ. Abundant sunshine and mild temps, breezy, too. All the spring ingredients in harmony for the Moms.

I drank my share of hoppy IPAs last night so I thought that I'd go for a dark beer today. I dug through the beer fridge and hit paydirt: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/16057/37795/?ba=NiceTaps.

Maui CoCoNut Porter was a pleasant surprise and was exactly what I wanted today. It hit the spot after all the yard work I'd done today. What a pleasant surprise.

Time to move on to more fun...and a hopped up beer.

    Happy Mothers Day...Cheers!!

Seeing a few friends roll through my local while they're out for Mom's brunch/lunch (almost happy hour by now). I'm having a pork belly taco with this brew: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/978/71272/?ba=beertunes . And, of course some more JByrd for ya: . Jonathan's album "The Law and the Lonesome" is excellent, and available on his website.

Happy Sunday to everyone. I hope that you are all able to spend the day with those who you love. It's a slightly chilly Mothers Day here in Chicago. But it's not raining and when the sun is out, it's Spring enough for me. I'm grilling dinner for the family and was really happy to do a mini beer tasting for us (actually requested by my mom. ). I've never tried Goose Island's Sofie but wanted to serve a farmhouse ale to go alongside the homebrew Saison that my brother & I were unavailing. Our's still could use a bit more time in the bottle, but the Sofie was just lovely.

New American Belgian Pale Sunday (week 429)

Greetings NBS'ers, gloriouis day here on the ridge. Those who know me longest know I am a shroomer first, fine beer lover second, and more folks know me as Shroomer Dave than as cavedave, and Mothers Day the wife gets some quality time while the boys and I go out for morels. Top pic is a 3 Beans, but I've had lots of those, in front of part of today's haul. Next pic is a great beer next to one of the bigger dozen that will be stuffed and served for Mothers Day supper. Solstice a beer made by some fellow Mid Hud Val hb'ers turned pros (as soon will I), Sloop Brewing. Hope you also have a Great American Beer in your glass! Cheers

One of my two favorite domestic saisons along with Hennepin. Great with so many of my favorite cheeses. I picked up a case recently and I plan to do a four year vertical soon.
