The funniest post in the German forum asked "where to get epic sours in Germany." My response: you know Germany & Belgians are different countries and they mutually dislike each other? And Germans think Belgian beer is not only evil, but not even beer? These forums demonstrate that Americans don't teach geography much.

True, so much beer related hatred. My friend is from East Germany and paints all Bavarian stuff as shit without tasting it, just loyal to his local budweiser owned brewery!

I find that a bit unusual actually
over the past few years I have noticed that the American's I have encountered have been more astute over geography and world events/history. Where as I have noticed a sharp increase of ignorance and downright
    xenophobia in my people.

Besides surely wouldn't it be obviously at odds with the mighty Reinheitsgebot??

Luckily no country has a monopoly on idiots.
Wouldn't this be a better discussion for other forums?

My suggestion for stickies were shot down by the Bro.s... maybe the best solution is the Portland one? Good luck with that.

Also, a few years ago, I spent a weekend on a beer-filled tour of Edinburgh and did it mostly by researching Qype.com for pubs recommended by locals. Even got a t-shirt by doing a 10-stop pub crawl from World's End pub. Took 2 days to complete and saw the "entire" city. BTW, they had great haggis, too.

I would have thought that beer in Eastern Germany would have had the living shit kicked out of it by Soviet Occupation, surely Uncle Joe would have wanted that grain to go to bread and vodka?

Apparantly beer was actually better in the GDR than in West Germany!

To be fair, I don't have much of a clue about American geography either. If I were going to the US I'd probably ask where to get good barbecue in Nebraska or something.

Ironically there are three importers of Cantillon "epic sours" into Germany and only two importers for the entire US.

Too bad I haven't seen them, ever, in any store in Germany. Please tell me where they import to here. I have better luck finding beers in France.

Atm i post fom an ipad. when I manage to get to a pc i shall knock up a map of the Toon and add some crawls, ale pubs, craft keg pubs, cider pubs etc and stick it on my blog. It won't be fancy, in fact, seeing as I can barely use MS Paint it will be embarrassingly gash but factually correct.

As noted by someone else, the Bros. aren't willing to do it. Something similar was allowed in the mid-Atlantic regional forum for a while to let NJ locals chat about where to find certain beers. But so many folks persisted in abusing each other and bystanders that the Bros shut it down a couple of times with a warning and then just ruled against doing it.

Easiest, since you are based in Germany, if you go to the Cantillon web site, find their names and contact information. That might provide some clues to aid in your search.

    Here's the link you need:

    Good Luck!!

There are German beers easily as sour as lambic: Berliner Weisse and Gose.

A lot of the beer was. The best Berliner Weisse was from the East. The better beers in Thüringen were up there with the best Czech Lagers. If only I could get my hands on Mühlhausener Pilsator - what a beer.

Thanks for keeping on-topic, peeps. That really helps the cause :/

If a locked / sticky thread is out of the question, how about (as suggested) one thread with links to key resources and updates for new openings etc? That we can add to and bump?

It's clear that members want this info; seems a shame to continually re-invent it.

I guess if it was from the West it would just be a "Weisse"

Not sure I understand that. In the 1980's there were breweries called Schultheiss and Kindl in both the East and West of the city brewing Berliner Weisse, though the ones in the Russian sector had been nationalised.
