I'm just curious to see what the ratio is on this.

I like a few, but it seems like a good number of the ones I've had have been TOO boozy/harsh, so I'd probably vote no.

Too me that is too much of a blanket statement. Some boozy beers I like, some I dont. Depends on the other aspects of the beer, just as much as the booziness.

For me it's about the balance. If the booze flavor is about half the flavor or more, then I'm turned off by it. I want my beer to taste primarily beer-ish.

I voted "Yep", but it really depends. Booze can definitely add complexity and depth, but it can also obliterate some of the more subtle flavors if it's out of balance.

Nope. If I want booze, I'll drink booze. A hint is okay, but that's about it.

I agree it depends on the beer im drinking and if it compliments the flavor well. Overall not a booze bomb guy.

Boozy is a flaw in a beer imo.

I feel if you can define a beer as "boozy", it missed its mark. It would be unbalanced. I think a better question might be do enjoy an unbalanced beer with booze as its main character.

I voted no, but I don't mind if it takes a backseat in the flavor profile. Too much booze will ruin a beer for me.

I see it as a flaw too. BJCP says that some is acceptable in barleywine and so forth, but that's the difference between a good and great beer, IMO.

The insane amount of booze I pick up in Plead the 5th by Dark Horse is why I really don't care for it -- that happens to me with a lot of Imperial Stouts. I'd probably like a lot of them if I let them age/mellow out for a little while.

I hope it's too early in the day for this to be a drunk post...

When I use the word 'boozy' to describe a beer, it's usually implying that the alcohol level in the beer hinders it's drinkability. But, for the sake of this question, if by boozy, you simply mean strong ales and barrel aged beers, then yes, I like some boozy beers. Utopias, Black Tuesday, Dark Horizon , Alpine Great and De Struise Double Black are all over 15% and can easily be considered boozy beers, but I think they are delicious.

By boozy I mean ... beers that have a prominent alcohol flavor.

Had Sierra Nevada's Narwal and Hoptimum for the first time this year. Both too boozy for me. Narwal tasted like a good stout mixed with whiskey. The alcohol in Hoptimum ruined it for me. It kind of got in the way of the hops. In general, for an IPA, I don't like going over 8% ABV.

I like to taste the booze in a 10-18% beer. If you can't taste it, it's way too easy to drink quickly. Not to the point where the beer IS booze, but just so you know it's there.

No.. I don't mind a little heat which can sometimes add to the complexity.. too much booze diminishes the flavors.. usually a beer being dominated by alcohol flavors isn't a good thing to me..

Unless it's inappropriate for the style, or unless the alcohol drowns out the other flavors, I do enjoy being able to pick up on a mild booziness, but it shouldn't be too prominent.

If the booze-y flavor is imparted from a barrel it was aging in then I like it, if not prefer it. If the beer just tastes boozy and is sub 10% then no I do not like it. If it is a big beer, some booziness is expected and its within the range of flavors that I expect to see and do not mind it.

I find that generally, booziness distracts from the flavor profile of the beer. I want to feel like I'm drinking beer, not hard liquor. A little is expected and acceptable to me in higher gravity styles.
