Founders posted an interesting picture on their Facebook today:

Seen clearly on the barrel there is a logo for Spite. The real question is, is this a taproom offering only or the next Backstage? I swear I remember an interview I read somewhere that Dave Engbers said he wanted to bottle Spite, but I can't find it.

Barreled 01/07/13. This is probably for the taproom. Weren't all the rumors saying the next Backstage was a fruit-based beer? If so, this Spite would be in the barrels for a very long time until the Backstage release after next. I just don't think it would be worthwhile to devote that much time and barrel space to a chile beer. Besides, the other barrels next to the Spite pictured could be anything, not jut more Spite.

I'd love to see them bottle Habañero barrel-aged spite as the next backstage just to listen to the amount of bitching there would be on this site.

I had all 4 variants of the barrel-aged spites back a few years ago and thought they were pretty decent but not earth shattering. Habañero was pretty hot, Serrano i thought was the best.

Could be for Founders Fest although I see Spite making it into the Backstage Series at some point.

First line seems to read something like "sale 08-31." BA Spite would probably a shorter duration barrel age. Doom was something like 6 mos.

Yeah, I would probably bitch... But the last 3 backstage beers have given many people reason enough to do so...
Not to mention the fact that Founders is trying spread itself way to thin by trying to market in Europe and everywhere else except it original distro areas.

Oh yeah... they're spreading themselves REAL thin with the 10 kegs and 30-or-so cases of KBS sent to Texas... and no Doom in bottles. We're freakin' swimming in the stuff.

I kind of agree they are spreading themselves thing. Obviously there is more beer they release then KBS, but I heard NH got 70 cases and they are a brand new market. Not sure in total how many cases Massachusetts got, but Western MA only got 2 cases total and we've been a Founders market for years. We are swimming in Breakfast Stout and All Day though.

The reason people moan about every BS beer is that it isn't CBS. Parabola, Darkness, Black Ops, Dark Lord, etc. all receive a somewhat annual and normal release schedule. IMO, with the exception of FMB, none of the beers in the series have been sub-Founders quality. Spite is an incredibly complex beer and even though I'm not the biggest fan of it, I'd still love to see how it ages and develops over time.

Oh hey look what Founders just announced on Facebook:

    Currently on tap.

EDIT: This should probably be moved to Great Lakes forum now, since it's not being bottled (yet).

This is exactly what I mean. This is what happened in NW Illinois. It fairly common to easily purchase a 4pk of KBS every yearin this area, but this year I only had the chance to buy a single bottle... Just adds to the situation that Founders is probably going to loose many loyal customers because they arent taking care of the home market and the diminishing quality of their beer(especially in the backstge series).

The Founders rep here said Vt. got 50 cases of KBS, and I know of 8 kegs just in Burlington, 6 of which have yet to be tapped.

Agree on this as well and I've noted it in past posts. Founders is definitely aiming to go by way of commercial micro-brewery (i.e. Sierra Nevada and Goose Island). This absolutely holds nothing against their beer other than they seemed committed to being nationally available. It does however effect the availability of their current markets and the ability to experiment with smaller one-offs and taproom exclusives.

I don't think we'll see a day that KBS will be readily available like BCBS unless Founders opts for warehouse storage of their barrel program. I've read in multiple interviews that the gypsum mines they use really limit the amount of BA beer they can produce (IMHO the mines are a cool story but probably lead to more overhead than using a warehouse that could easily replicate temperature and humidity conditions in the mines).

Additionally, people might need to come to terms with the fact that we may never see a bottle release of CBS again. The demand proportions are incredibly skewed as I'm sure Founders is growing at an exponential clip compared to BLiS BB Syrup sales (I believe this is one of a very limited amount of commercial producers of BB Maple Syrup). Just my observation.

Ok got it, buy BLiS BB maple syrup until they can make CBS year round.

Just because someone on this site posted NH got 70 cases, doesn't mean that actually happened. Either way, what's wrong with the brewery expanding distro? I say spread the wealth all over the country, the same people who really want the limited offerings will find a way to get them. MA got screwed with placement of KBS because its a highly populated state and there are a ton of retailers. Think of expanded distro to NH as an extra shot for you to get ahold of bottles.

Founders bottling Spite or any variation of would be the biggest mistake since Frangelic Mountain Brown.

Oh that makes sense because VT is such a HUGE state and doesn't have enough quality beer of its own (that doesn't get distro'd outside the state for that matter). Damn hippies and their dumb, greedy hippie state!

I don't understand all these "spreading themselves thin" comments. Maybe their product is just more in demand, and KBS doesn't sit on the shelf as long as it used to.

Founders will be fine. Please stop being delusional in thinking that completely insane, entitled, truck-chasing nerds are what keeps Founders afloat.

No need to be disrespectful sir, I was merely adding to the discussion. While we may not have many people, we do, per capita, have the most microbreweries. The lack of widespread distribution of Vt beer, I think is probably due to the very small size of most of the breweries, and if you can't even keep up with your own state's demands, it's hard to spread that out. For our size, we do have a lot of craft brew drinkers, and honestly I wish some of the breweries that some of you enjoy would come here, their product would sell fast. If you weren't so rude, I'd probably offer to send you some Heady. damn...
