I think Founders' beers are generally slightly more spot-on (and KBS and Harvest Ale are probably in my personal top five favorite beers), but Bell's has like three times the variety. Both excellent.

Bells. Things like Q-falls, as I like lagers.

Founders makes some favorites of mine, Reds Rye, but some of the beers are a little out of balance, which is why I think many like them.

can someone have a new beer release or big beer festival to talk about so we can avoid threads like this? I prefer both in different ways, its not cubs v sox guys its more beatles v. stones. You can like both equally.

Even their brew pubs are like this. Founders' is more "crisp", with table service and better food, while Bell's has a better set-up for live music. Also, how f'ing lucky am I that I live close enough to go to either whenever I want. #regularbrag

This. All of Founder's regular offerings are top-notch, Bell's can be hit or miss. I drain poured Expedition Stout this year. It was my first in a few years and it was absolutely terrible.

Although, other than BN (I have both 750s and 12 oz) and BA 9000, what other limited releases has Bell's put out recently that have that fantastic?

The real winner here is us.

Both are amazing for their own reasons....but until Bells can grow up to growler fills Founders will win this battle.

Disagree? See the results of the Beer City USA. (Not the only reason)

Bells kills me with no growlers. I wanted some wild one! ISO!

Absolutely. I definitely agree that they've been lacking a bit with the specials as well, but I guess when I wrote that I was thinking about their entire "Batch" series, compared directly to say Founders' "Backstage" guys.

Founders has some of my favorite brews now, but Bells is what I grew up on. The first time I had This One Goes To 11 on tap was pretty hugely responsible for my getting into craft beer.

Back in the day Larry was against growlers. As I understand it, today Bells has a Brewers license in MI and is not allowed to fill growlers by law. Do you have other evidence?

Nope...this is correct. But would be nice to see this change.

Will they be covered by the new growler laws in MI? If so, we might see growlers there very, very soon.

Founders for sure overall but Bells has better individuals. Love both.

I'm no beer ratings expert but here's my tale of the tape for beers I have above 4:

Founders: FBS, KBS, Centennial, Curmudgeons Better Half, Double Trouble, Harvest, FIS, and Porter (8)

Bells: Expedition, Hopslam, Two Hearted, Black Note, BA Batch 9000, Oracle, Goes to 11 (7).

Pretty much a wash for me.
