I got mine! (had to trade out to Cali for it) - Dude gave me the best trading experience I've ever had so far. He made me feel like an asshole for not doing it on the same level as him, It was a lesson learned.

 

Parabola > Abyss

 

Sucaba is a superior beer. Easily in my top 3. I'm glad to have 4 of them, but I wish I had more. It's absolutely superb.

Parabola Vs Abyss


Parabola is fantastic out the gate, but Abyss really develops into something special with some age. I haven't had an aged Parabola to compare it to yet.

 

I've had Parabola and Abyss on the same night for three nights this week, and each time I felt that the fresh Parabola was better than the 2012 (i.e. ~6 months old) Abyss. Yeah, that's enough enough time to make a fair comparison, but I've also had 2011 after a little more than a year, and if memory serves correctly, I still liked Parabola better. It's not unlikely that I just like the style of Parabola better; I don't make any claims that either is the better beer.

 

Parabola's got the freshness factor but with age I've tend to found Abyss better. Granted I've had Abyss verticals before and only less than a handful of chances at trying older Parabola.

 

Frankly, not much of a fight there. Abyss is a good beer, but there are just too many better options. Example..the whole Yeti series stomps Abyss. If they were as rare as Abyss, I would commit gnurdicide to ensure I get my Yeti.

FWIW... I like Parabola better. I think Abyss is a top-tier beer, but Parabola is world class in its' category. Heck, I don't even think they shouldn't even really be compared... VERY different beers. Abyss is much more licorice/molasses to me and Parabola is a vanilla/coconut bomb.

 

Abyss is only partially barrel aged and takes a year to be worth a flip. Even then it's very good, but not top tier IMHO.

I know we are all talking opinions here, but I just can't even put Abyss in the same ballpark as Parabola. After a year it might be in the parking lot at the ballpark, but still not in the ballpark.

 

Infected 2009 Abyss was wonderful...seriously.

I agree. Total funky odor, and weird funky flavor out of the gate, but then finished with a smooth, clean coffee flavor. It was an enjoyable experience.

 

Sweet! See if it works out for Abyss, maybe Ranger Creek has a chance ;-)

 

I'll gladly trade you 2010 Abyss for a current release Parabola.

 

There's one problem.... Deschutes /= Ranger Creek
