I think Triple Bock is a component of Utopia, so it would make sense that they make it semi-regularly.

At the time...it was pretty damned good. I crack up on all the hate. There was ZERO "soy sauce" back in the day. It was malty, a tad hot, hints of dark fruit, fairly chewy. Mind blowing in the 90's.

This thread (and the fact I saw Goonies earlier) inspired me to go on a search of the boxes in my basement. I had a feeling I might find one.

Not sure of the year, but my best guess is it is the '97 vintage.

Oddly enough, hiding right next to it was this gem.

(Why did I buy it and why has it sat for over 15 years?)

I don't like it. I've never tried it, but I don't like it. It sucks.

This. I still have a case and a half of the 94 and I love it. It's currently drinking fantastic. About 3 weeks ago I busted a few out to share. It has so much maple character to it that its unbelievable.

If Triple Bock came in a Founders bottle it would be the best beer ever made.

It was a soysauce bomb when it first came out too. Over the years it has become more complex with more maple, chocolate, sherry/port flavors to go along with the soysauce. Still betting on this being a great beer in 30 years or so...

In 30 years, this beer will be in a completely solid state.

I kinda want this now to see how it's holding up. Anyone on the Mass/RI border want to sell/trade this to me?

I bought a case in 94' when it first came out :astonished:, and had the last one last summer. Always wanted to like it but didn't quite. It was interesting how it changed over the years, sort of how a McDonald's burger changes with each passing month.

And by solid state I mean no longer liquid. Not solid as in good.

Had a bottle in college, must have been '98. It was a drain pour then.

Tried it again maybe 5 or so years later after being a BA for a while to see if maybe I'd gained a greater appreciation of it's subtle nuances.

Although I could understand it better, it still tasted the same, and I ended up dumping the rest.

For anyone who's never had it. Go to your local homebrew store and buy some LME. Mix it with equal parts soy sauce, maple syrup, and then maybe add some grain alcohol or vodka, and BAM. SA Triple Bock. :-)

It always felt like the slightly mutant prototype of Utopias, which although is in the same vane, is an absolutely amazing beer. I just don't get it. :-)

You have had multiple-month-old McDonald's burgers? You'd need a Triple Bock to wash that down with!
