Ya'll should be grateful for having the opportunity to try these beers. I often bite my tongue on this site. Crack a beer and relax.

This is so far from my experience that it makes my head hurt. I drank an abrasive from March like 2 weeks ago. It was all grapefruit and super resinous. Can't wait for next years release to get some super fresh.

Dreadnaught is great, but, in my experience, THAT falls off faster than Pliny.

Pliny is 8% ABV and 90+ IBU (lab numbers, the theoretical IBU is about 250); very easy to drink. Don't know about you but that could get me trashed pretty quick. Heady is pretty much identical in this regard.

OP et al: I was able to taste Pliny and Heady side by side a couple of years ago, before the pub was destroyed. Two week old hand bottled Heady vs 12 day old Pliny. Heady was better, smoother and more balanced between hop bitterness and hop flavor (talking about the relative malt contribution of these two beers is a joke; it's there but not a big player. Heady does have a better malt character - UK Pearl vs NA 2 row). Bottom line, they are both obviously world class beers. If Pliny is only 99.9% as good that's hardly a 'disappointment'.

The problem is that you expected Pliny to taste like Heady. Pliny is basically what defined the style of DIPA, and Heady is a different take on the style. From my perspective Heady isn't balanced between the amount of aroma hops and the bittering. Kern River, Alpine, and Beachwood are doing pretty good at that over here.

I've had Pliny but have not had Heady. I have a question. The OP makes note of Enjoy By. Now while I really like Enjoy By, it's a f*ckin' cartoon. It's a big, boozy, unbalanced hop bomb. Nothing like Pliny. And this may shed some light on the OP's personal taste. Is this what I am to expect from Heady or is the OP making bad comparisons?

I have had them both ( and a lot of it) , that said I feel Pliny is easily the most drinkable of the two. For me it depends on my mood. Heady is such an incredible hop slam and Pliny you could drink all day long. So I gave both a 5/5 with no clear winner. Both are great! IMO

I have had a lot of all three, all of which are awesome. For drinkability I still think Pliny is king.

Had 'em both. All things considered, I'd rather have a fridge full of Lagunitas Sucks.

I agree that Pliny is not as much of a "wow" beer and it seems that the more you drink it, the more you appreciate it. It is hard to find any faults in it.

Heady is much more of a "wow" beer because of it's intensity and more unique flavor. And the more you drink it the more you appreciate it!

Historians might one day unearth this thread (and many others just like it) and gain a better understanding of the Pliny/Heady War of 2018–2021.

Haven't had Heady or Pliny, but I gave away the last 3 cans of Abrasive from my pack. Love me some dreadnaught and Panzer Wolf and many other DIPA's, but I hated Abrasive.

Different strokes for different folks I guess.

just had both for the first time recently and i have to say they are both amazing in their own rights. pliny is so well balanced with the perfect amount of hops and citrus, while heady is a hop bomb, albeit not with super bitter hops. in my opinion, they are both top 5 IPAs for different reasons.

can't believe you just said "delicious" and "epic let-down" to describe the same beer in the same instance.
