P.S. - BA Spite is not being bottled, it's a taproom offering. Understand the discussion at hand.

Just had the barrel aged habanero and poblano versions at the taproom. The former was probably one of the spiciest beers we've ever had. While this may seem like a bit of a novelty, the wood gave insane balance, making them both much more complex.

Outside of CBS and Blushing Monk, I don't think the Backstage Series releases have been anything beyond average at best.

Don't get me wrong, wasn't a huge fan of FMB or BC....still their amazing beers when held up to some of the other rare/specialty/one-offs that are out there. Don't see how anyone can knock Doom. BB DIPA for $13 a bomber?!?!?! This is cheaper than Rouge Shakespeare Stout. And about 75% of the other bombers in the Michigan Market.

Once again, I understand, the beers outside of BM/CBS/CBH don't compare to those three. But, in my opinion, they still rank quite high in the universe of craft....with the exception of FMB....which just wasn't that great....would have worked better in 12oz bottles.

BA Habanero Spite on draft tonight in NYC at Blind Tiger, along with Blushing Monk.

Had both varieties this week, the Pablano was good not top much barrel on it though. I deeply regret drinking the habanero though, holy heart burn. I was burping fire for hours.

I think I had heartburn for a month after habenero Spite.

Cool concept, but felt like death in my throat.

Never too early to start speculating on what the next TWO Backstage Pass series beers are.

Wow, finally had the BA Poblano. Amazing. Aging and BA process really mellows it out. It has a slight smokey flavor but it in no ways burns like the fresh variant.

Tried these both last night. Poblano was awesome, both had the buttery/ butterscotch/ vanilla flavor I noticed in Doom, but a nice mellow woodiness to balance the heat. Habanero was too much for me. About halfway into my Sleeper Cell (10.something% DIPA they just tapped), I poured the rest of my habanero sample (about 2 oz.) in, and the combo was great.

PS, they just refilled the fridge at Founders with Doom bottles for 13 a pop if anyone's interested!

Had samples of these on the way up to my golf club in Kingsley on Friday. Poblano had a nice flavor, but a really great nose. Really smelled like poblano peppers and was very drinkable. Habanero, on the other hand, didn't have much of a noticeable aroma, but a nice flavor, at least until the heat kicked in, and boy was there a lot of heat. I could have easily had a full glass of Poblano (already had a glass of Sleeper Cell and had two more hours to drive), but I'm not sure how much Habanero I could handle.

You passed on BA Frangelic? Sleeper Cell and Poblano Spite were good but that was the highlight of my Founders visit.

I didn't see it on tap. We were there right around 11:30 am on Friday. Either I just missed it or they didn't have it.

The barrel didn't do much for me compared to the regular Frangelic stout. Not sure if this is due to it being nitro.

The BA Poblano was pretty good but the BA Habanero was far too spicy for me to enjoy (and I REALLY like spicy food). Neither is really my cup of tea. Glad I tried them though.

Curmudgeon's Better Half is hands down the best beer I have ever laid my lips on outside of BCBS.

With that said I'm hearing that the next Backstage will be Black Biscuit or another CBS.

Same here. I've had BA Frangelic Stout a few times and only like it because it tastes almost identical to the non BA versions outside of a slight grainy smokiness.
