I received a few trade boxes late last week and yesterday I was rearranging my "cellar" really just a huge wall unit used previously for all the crap my wife collects. When my wife looked at me and said so are you ever going to drink any of this or is it just gonna sit here like my nick knacks you made me put in my office?

I thought for a second then looked in the glass beer fridge I have that only has the beer I drink regularly in it and said Oh I am going to drink it, (in my head I am saying hell no this is all trade bait or beer for tastings)

It got me thinking, how many of you actually drink the beer you trade for and how many just have it sitting in your cellar while you drink the same locals you have been for years?

I drink the beer I trade for. Otherwise what's the point?

I drink it or it is being saved for a tasting or to drink with a certain person. The problem is that I don't drink as much as I buy or trade for so I continue to accumulate it.

I think that is the same problem I have. I don't drink enough.

Same here. I used to have pretty regular tastings so my the input and output of my cellar were pretty even. However, the guy that used to host the tastings moved away and I don't have the opportunity to share my cellar nearly as often. I plow through the 12oz pretty well, but the bombers sit in the cellar. Need to find a tasting group that meets regularly.

I plan to drink it all eventually, but I do want to age some of it first. I think that, at this point, I have fewer bottles in the "I just haven't had time to drink this" category than I have in the "I am intentionally aging this" category, which I'm happy about.

I don't drink everyday, but I do have a buying problem over a drinking problem. However, I do plan to drink it all, or else what's the point? I save more of my "special" bottles for tastings though. Because God knows my dogs don't care if x bottle is amazing, so it's just a lot more fun drinking those with other people.

If you find yourself with an over-flowing cellar, best thing to do is to find a new trader trying to do a locals-for-locals, and then fuck the hell out of his porch.

I'm pretty much on a buying/trading hiatus right now, and am trying to work on getting through my cellar by bringing lots to tastings and even giving some stuff away. Went to a tasting this weekend and brought 6 bottles to drink, 4 bottles as a gift to the host, and 7 bottles that I gave away (styles I dont love that I've somehow acquired over time).

Felt awesome to move/drink so many bottles and see people enjoy them, rather than watching them sit in my cellar.

We used to have a monthly tasting at the local World of Beer, but it got really big and people started showing up with shelf turds and the core of us that started it stopped going and thus stopped hosting it. This is where I share all of the beer I traded for. Now it just sits. But I will have to change that.

The first one we did in April of last year had among others, a 3 year old Czar, a SA Triple Bock from 1996 (was amazing) and Utopius. They were all kinda down hill from there.

I'm on both sides of the fence here.. There are a few beers that are still sitting in my basement waiting to be had with friends or at some special event, but I also am trading for a reason so a lot of the non local shelf beers go pretty quick.

Most of the larger bottles or hard to come by bottles I save to drink with friends for special events. In fact I opened a bottle of 09 Dark Lord earlier this month during a BBQ I had.

Not to threadjack, but I'm looking to trade my vintage Pikachu card for a 2009 BCBS if you will throw in some local BeanieBabies as extras to even up the $4$ if anyone is interested.

I can't do the Beanie Babies but I do have a pretty vast collection of Pog walez to make up the $4.

Also, beer is for drinking unless you are saving them for a special occasion or intentionally aging them.

Unfortunately Beanie Babies are made by Ty Inc. in Westmont, Illinois..... and you know how those Chicago traders can be......

Are you looking for the BA UR Holos or just the regular? I would be willing to give someone a shot at my regular Holos, but the BA version I'm saving for someone special.
