"Beer Karma" is not real, and not something I ever give a thought to. That said, I do always leave some for the next man/woman. I have more of a problem with the "hoarding" when people are buying outrageous amounts, using proxies, etc.,. I don't see buying 4 bottles, and leaving some behind being a big deal at all.

Unless you got a real deal on those bottles your punishment is the price you paid.

just don't go out of your way to screw people over. the line is pretty easy to see (e.g. you work at a beer store, get a case of super limited beer, buy all of it yourself, or you go to a small brewery's limited bottle release and buy 3 of 10 cases produced between yourself and your 20 non-beer drinking mules, etc etc).

ethics are almost always easy. re: 4 parabolas, just enjoy them. the store should have a limit if your area's distro is that thin. if you feel guilty still, find someone and share the bottle with them.

I usually don't go store to store if there is a bottle limit. But, if no limit, I buy all I can. I drink, share and trade so I don't feel guilty. Went to a store last year and a day after they got it, they still ad a full case of KBS. Bought the whole thing. Half went to a fellow BA, and the rest was traded or extras (or in my belly). No guilt

I should have mentioned in my OP that yeah, I definitely plan to share the beer with others. I'll probably have one myself, bring one to a bottle-share, and trade the other two.

But that's part of the issue I think - taking from my community, only to send it across the country to someone else. Granted, trading it might allow me to get/try a beer I otherwise couldn't have, but what about the fact that I could also be preventing a local BA from getting to try a beer they otherwise couldn't have.

I guess this could be nitpicked to death, but it's great hearing everyone's opinion. Thanks!

I wouldn't feel bad about clearing out the entire stock if it was a beer I wanted that bad and could afford it. However, I've only done that once and it was not a rare beer, just an exceptional deal. Normally I only buy 1-2 bottles regardless of rarity because I don't get into trading or stockpiling beer.

If you feel bad about preventing a local BA from trying one, then you can sell it to them or share it with them. There are many ways to "right your wrongs" even if you weren't really wrong in the first place. Also, if a local BA wants it that bad then they can trade for it as well. I know plenty of people who are probably willing to trade a Parabola for some On The Wings of Armageddon.

I'm firmly in the "leave some for the next customer" camp - simply because I CAN buy out a store's allotment of something doesn't mean I should. Plenty of others disagree, and they can obviously do what they choose with their money, but it strikes me as selfish.

There's a guy in my town who took multiple days off work to drive all over the place, maxing his allotment of KBS everywhere he went - he seemed pretty pleased with himself.

If it's for sale, you want it, you have a means to pay - buy it.

I buy as much as I please. Never feel guilty but my philosophy is good beer is ment to be shared. So if I happen to catch a limited release I buy around 4-6 bottles and have friends over to enjoy them with.

Buying four bottles isn't hoarding. Buying four cases is hoarding.

Send me all of the Parabola. All of it.

Wait, wait. I'm worried what you heard was "send me a lot of Parabola". What I said was, "send me all of the Parabola".

It's situations like this, that I think: "What would Backfat do?"

So clearly, you should buy all of the Parabola and pee the bed.

Because I am such a beer altruist, I once discovered a secret stash of 2 FBS at a liquor store in SD.. I could have bought them for the sake of buying a highly desirable beer that is not available in CA, but instead, I left them for the next lucky person who actually likes stouts. I hope they went to a good home.. :slight_frown:
