    Hey,

I'm coming to San Antonio from Atlantic Canada (PEI, of course) in June. I'll be in town for several days for a conference, and will be staying downtown - near the Alamo, I think. I will be without transportation, and can really only get to things that I can walk to in the eve or maybe for lunch (so, Blue Star seems possible, while Freetail is out, for example).

Any tips / spots that I should know about where I can get some stuff to bring home and/or have some good stuff on tap / by bottle?

    Cheers,

    Steve

I'm from Newfoundland and live in Houston and all I know is that the beer selection in Newfoundland is so bad you can pretty much walk into any beer store in Texas and you are full of a world of wonders. I think there is a 24 bottle limit on how much you can take back to Canada though.

Friendly Spot is walking distance from downtown locations, and has probably the best bottle/tap selection down there. No idea on bottle shops that might be accessible downtown, though

I'll be the first.... It's worth cab fare to Freetail. You will not regret it.

    **beaten to the punch!!

I was just looking at Freetail's site again, and looking at their on-tap selection... def. looks tempting!!
Friendly Spot was one I looked at, too... prob. make an effort to just get to it and Blue Star, at least. Maybe Alamo if time (only one beer, though). Gotta say that only being able to get Freetail at the brewery is a pull factor to try and make it out there for sure... I think it's 14miles away or something like that, though... wonder how much that cab'd be?

The cab would be expensive to say the least.

I will be the first to say this, and I am sure others will agree. It is not worth going to Blue Star. They are a subpar place with bad food and mediocre beer. I want it to be good, but just don't bother.

Stella Public House. New place just opened only a few steps from Blue Star. Really good artisan pizza and nice beer selection. Taps and bottles. I agree with aschwab, youll probably be disappointed with Blue Star.

The only problem would be that the OP might have be seen drinking a beer with me. Well...... everything comes with a price.

It never ceases to amaze me... the amount of good will and willingness to help others, especially strangers, when it comes to us craft beer folk. I'll be messaging you in the near future!

He's not that good, he just needs someone to go to Freetail with him so he's not drinking alone.

There is truth to this on here. Same thing happened to me when I needed a good beer in Colombia.

I read this thread title as "Cantillon coming to San Antonio".

... speed reading is apparently not my strong suit. That or 'Loons on the brain.

Apparently, Miikezombie heard from a very reliable source that this is true.
