Boys in family converge from around the country for a weekend of baseball and beer. This year it's the Nationals vs. Twins. I'll be arriving June 7 & leaving the 10th staying at the Washington Marriott at Metro Center.
Interested in good food & good beer in neighborhood of hotel and ballpark as well as good beer stores.
Also, what East Coast goodies should I be seeking out beyond the usual shelf stuff ubiquitous everywhere - sorry Victory - I love you but I can get you any time.
Cheers and thanks in advance for any help.

:-) Hi Larry. You'll be arriving the very day I'll be leaving (out of Reagan National airport).

Anyway, that's pretty close to Logan and Dupont Circle, where there are all kinds of great places to grab a beer. Churchkey, Pizza Paradiso (the Dupont Circle location of course), and the Big Hunt are all nearby. Perhaps best of all, you'll be very near the P street Whole Foods, which has a great, well priced bottle selection (for DC). It's a great place to stock up on Founders, Bells, DC Brau, etc. That particular whole foods also has a very nice cafe area, with typically 10 different beers on tap. Last time I was there they had GIBCBS on tap, so that will give you some idea regarding the tap selection. Trying to think of other things to recommend to you... I think Maine Brewing is now available in the DC area, so be on the look out for bottles of Lunch and Mo. Terrapin stuff should be readily available as well, though I can't say I've ever been a huge fan of their stuff.

Anyway, enjoy yourself in DC. The weather should be nice, and hopefully the nationals will be entertaining. Be sure to bring the extra fat wallet... you'll need it in DC. :-)

Ha! Wouldn't you know it? Another incredible near miss - or hit - whatever.
Thanks for the tips John. Great start!
Now, if I could just grab some GIBCBS or GIBCBCS I'll feel like I've died and gone to heaven.

At Nat's stadium in the outfield near the entrance there is an area called the Red Porch. The lower level has a bar with a couple Dogfish beers and a Flying dog beer. Stop there and get two on the way to your seats. Choices will be much more limited in other areas of the park from what I've seen.

This is only a few blocks from your hotel, and it's great (beer and pizza-wise):

There are quite few good places in Chinatown too (not far from Metro Center) that have good beer as well.

Edit: I live a few blocks from Nats Stadium, and it's pretty lacking around here as far as craft goes. I don't think Blue Jacket will be open by the time you're visiting, but there's a Gordon Biersch within walking distance to the stadium if you really want to pregame. (Otherwise, save your money for the $9 ballpark Miller Lites!)

Oh and you MUST go to Churchkey while in DC. It's the best we have to offer..

So you're saying good beer is at a premium or non-existent inside the ballpark?
Bummer. That plus ipas-for-life comment that it's Red Porch or nothing.
No big deal really. We don't do most of our drinking at the games anyway.

There are a couple good options in most of the food sections. Baseline Brew stands are spread out and have Flying Dog and SN type beers.

You can find Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Flying Dog Raging Bitch and Sam Adams Boston Lager all throughout the stadium, but if you want anything beyond that, the Red Porch is the place to go. Last time I was there they had DFH 60 Minute and Indian Brown as well as two Flying Dog beers (I believe it was Snake Dog IPA and Atlantic Lager). They also had Yuengling, Blue Moon and something from Leinenkugel. In the past they've also had stuff from Heavy Seas and Ommegang, though I don't think either have shown up this year.

I'm heading to the stadium on Memorial Day, so I will report back with more details if anything's changed.

From Metro Center, Chinatown as mentioned. Pi, Gordon Biersch (not so much for their beer as for the building), Matchbox (decent selection, great food), RFD (good selection). Cuba Libera, just for the rum drinks.

Then the other direction, the patio level outside the Willard (Occidental) for a small but nice selection (4-6 good) in a great setting. Then to the W rooftop for $8 Sierras, for the view. I would avoid the Ariea, the service sucks. Given your timelime, I would ride the red to Dupont, and hit the places there, but not go to the powerhouses of DC.

In the area of the ballpark, be careful. I would just hit the Porch, and restrict my travels there to station to gate (unless you need the bullpen, which is fun but very BMC).

For breakfast food, Lincoln Wafflehouse. Looks like hell, tastes great.

This might be the craziest advice I have ever seen for a family that is meeting up and staying in DC. Yes the Alehouses are a nice spot, but no reason to drive all the way out there for them.

Isn't it totally independent of DFH too? (Not to mention, the food is crap.)

Nope. They licensed the name out, but have little to do with the alehouses.

I liked the good at the one in Gaithersburg. I lived a
Few blocks away and stopped in a few days a week
And never had a bad meal.

The Red Porch in centerfield has increased their tap lineup. Was there this past Sunday. DFH Indian Brown and 60 Min. Flying Dog Snake Dog, Atlantic Lager, Allagash White, Heavy Seas Peg Leg, Boulevard Wheat and a few others.. Still boggles my mind that we don't have any local, DC Metro area beers on tap. Seriously, no DC Brau, Port City or Lost Rhino? They're the biggest production breweries in the DC Metro (also, Heavy Seas is not DC local nor is Flying Dog in Frederick, MD).

The DFH Ale Houses are owned by Macoroni Grill I believe and licensed by DFH.
