I have a new project I was hoping by BA brothers and sisters could help me with. I'm going to make a beer clock out and am looking for ideas around the beer bottle caps I can use for numbers. I figure I can use a three Floyd's cap for 3, a left hand cap for five, and maybe a Westy 12 for 12:00. Lots of missing gaps. Any ideas you can provide is appreciated.
It's stretching it.. But for #1 you could turn a DFH bottle cap vertical to make the #1. (the regular DFH cap.. Not the neon green ones)
Here's a list of breweries by alphabetical order. You can probably find some of your "numbers" breweries here: http://www.bcca.com/services/brewery_listing.asp
Ha! Yeah, the Magic Hat trademark seems to be hot button issue these days. I guess I could turn their cap upside down for a 6, but then I might be infringing the other guy, right?
Maybe a bit of a reach but Orval makes one beer (commercially) and therefore could be an appropriate 1. I was also thinking Weihenstephaner, which was founded in 1040, could be your number 8. Then twice a day it would be 10:40 - "Weihenstephaner Time!" But, yeah, the Rochefort 8 probably makes a lot more sense, lol.
Dang it, I just had an idea for 5, but I like this one better. FWIW, I was thinking 5 could be any foreign brewery, in honor of the famed rallying cry, "Well, it's 5:00 somewhere!" I think Britain is five hours ahead of EST, which means you could start drinking at noon and easily explain to The Significant Other that it's already 5:00 in London. I nominate OP's favorite British beer for 5.
OK, I'll stop clogging up your thread with dumb ideas, but if you're struggling for an 11, the word "eleven" in German is "elf". Do you get Troeg's Mad Elf down in TN?
There are bottle cap collectors who display their caps online, so if you want to take the time for the research you can google 'bottle cap collectors' to find these sites. Unfortunately many of these caps may not be currently available, so you might need to trade/buy them. Here's one site for you to search: http://www.zumbo.ch/caps/frameindex.html
This is a great idea man. If you made a bunch of these you could probably sell them on etsy.com for $100 a pop. I'd like to give this a shot myself actually.....
This is a cool idea, I've been saving up caps for a while for a project and I think this will be a great one to try out.
