We all know you have a favorite....don't give me the old, "depends on my mood, and on the season." We all have one....

I'll start, and come off like a typical Californian Broken Record. PtE. Would have voted for PtY, but not enough reference for everyone here on a FREE membership.

#1. I'm an old 420 lover, and even though there's plenty of beers and IPAs out there with more flavor, there's none that capture the "essence" of what I'd expect a pure hop bud to taste like more than the Plinys.

#2. It's not a hop bomb for the sake of being a hop bomb. The construction behind it is not to be over the top, rather than one you can drink everyday. (At 8%, I know, it sounds weird)

#3. As I mentioned, there's many with more flavor, for example FRESH HEADY TOPPER (Hey YOOO!) Abner, Dreadnaught, Bad Boy, Abrasive, SUCKS, Hop Slam, Café Racer 15, etc...HOWEVER! I'd need to be in the mood for those, whereas I'd never turn down a Pliny. I'm always in the mood for one. Sure there's time's where I think one of the above mentioned are better, but there's also times where I's say no.

Conclusion - I've been drinking this beer for over 10 years, so take the "I got started on this" with a grain of salt. Also, PtE is inconsistent. I'll to this day state, it was better before bottling, but when it's on, there's no equal. FOR ME. Subjective. Your turn...GO

KBS. A perfect blend of coffee, chocolate, and bourbon. No further explaination is needed.

This is what I'm looking for. For real, my favorite style of beer is not Stouts, but Bourbon Barrel aged stouts are close. First sip of BCBS Rare had me saying, "This might be the best beer I've ever had." A true and genuine "beer" moment for me. Closest thing to a "perfect beer I've ever had", minus the typical PLINY's to match comment...

    Parabola.

A beautiful sipping beer, complex flavors and a wonderful nose. Bourbon, coconut, vanilla, chocolate, dark fruits... just a masterpiece of a beer.

Also, I can't finish a bottle solo (nor would I want to) so every time I open one I get to share it with friends, many times people who've never previously enjoyed a Parabola. So it's also the perfect beer with which to be a beer advocate.

Oh YEAH! Still have release 1 and 2 for schitts and gigglez! But BCBS 2008 & 09', including RARE, you are missing out on PERFECTION! Subjective...

I'm seriously biased towards stouts.... I wanna say cherry rye or another one of those elegant brews, but honestly?

    I think if I look at my go-to brews, it's 3 beans!
Why? because it is rich like a good coffee stout, but not so overwhelmingly dense that you can't drink it on a warm day. Probably because it has a light hop accent?
    Love that beer.

(runner-up is Sucks! I love that grapefruit bomb!)

Schneider-Weisse Aventinus Eisbock. Every sip tastes just a little different. It's rich in aroma and flavor, excellent mouthfeel, delightful complexities as it changes temperature. I love the dark fruit flavors, the hints of brown sugar and molasses, the slightly vinous quality, and the alcohol warmth. It's hard for me to get ahold of, though, so it's a special occasion beer.

I clicked on this thread getting ready to give a defense of Pliny the Elder but you made a great start here already. The only thing I would disagree with is that you make it sound like there that much less flavour in Pliny the Elder compared to Heady Topper, Abrasive, Sucks, etc... I will disagree. Fresh Pliny absolutely holds its own- I always look forward to that massive, strong citrus scent that wafts out of the bottle when I open it. It smells fantastic and the hops contribute a ton of flavour to the beer! I think its as good as any DIPA out there. It all comes together extremely well with the 2-row malts. What it DOESN'T contribute is the gazillion IBUs and super long lingering aftertaste that beers like Heady and Abrasive do.. especially Abrasive. And that's what makes it more drinkable to me. I absolutely loved drinking this on consecutive days, and I don't have to mentally steel my palate to prepare to drink this beer.

Strawberry Abita. Go ahead and make fun, but there is no better everyday summer beer out there for me. I love Stouts, love IPAs, but dammit I could drink SA every day.

100% right but these days I have to appeal to the "masses." I DID SAY, it captures the PURE ESSENCE of a pure hop bud right? let's smoke!

Admittedly, there are a lot of stouts and BA stouts that I've not yet gotten to try, those among them. To date, the best I've had is Parabola, and I was blown away the first time I tried it. I look forward to the next time a beer blows me away... hopefully again soon.

    Rochefort 10.

Tons of dark fruits and caramel throughout the entire beer and probably the easiest drinking 11% beer I've ever had.

Probably Torpedo. Very easy to find (looks like Kroger and Wal Mart don't carry it anymore, but I normally stick to my local, small business beer store, great people). Also it's everything I look for in an IPA. It's perfectly balanced and doesn't have too much malt that a lot of IPAs, particularly, IIPAs have, it's a little sessionable at 7.4% (I think), and every time I have one, I'm still amazed by the intense and wonderful hop flavor that it carries. This beer never gets old for me and I've had hundreds of them.

For the last four weeks the perfect beer was Double Trouble. Hoppy yet so refreshing. I found myself craving it all day and was drinking it pretty much every night. Sadly, now it is gone.

Hoptimum is now my new favorite.
