Just had my first Lindley Park last night and it was delicious. Very balanced and not overly sweet. I've also had Bramble in the past which I found more sweet with stranger berry qualities. Can anyone let me know of other balanced beers on the Lindley Park line.

Not the same line, but the same brewer...Event Horizon is an awesome stout to seek out too. My favorite beer that's made in the state of NC.

I have a horizon sitting in the cellar as well. 2012. Better fresh or with a little age?

None. drained poured both of them, which is a shame since I love blackberries and raspberries.

I wish I could tell you! I've got two 2012s and haven't opened them yet either. I've always had on draft. I was relatively inexperienced when they released them last year. I was able to find two bottles in Charlotte about a month ago. On draft it was excellent. Olde Hickory stouts are all really good. They just released their imperial stout brewed with honey and it is excellent.

If I had to say, I'd give the bottles another two months and then open up one as it would then be about a year old. Or just dig in for it now!!

2012 vintage was significantly thinner than the 11, in my honest opinion aging the 2012 would not benefit it.

Personally, I like it either way. However, I prefer it fresh.

Pipeworks-Raspberry Truffle Abduction is a awesome raspberry stout. You may be able to find some BA's around Chicago that have one/some for trade.

Each batch is a little different. I don't know if they change the recipe slightly or if they use different barrels, but the three batches thus far have each been a little different. Personally, I think the 11 was the weakest of the three with 10 being the best and 12 being second. Friends who did a 3 year vertical when the 12 came out agreed that the 11 was the worst of the 3 (though still not bad). I haven't had the 10 recently, but I had it several times when the 11 came out and it was phenomenal. I've had the 11 a couple of times since the 12 came out and it wasn't holding up as well as the 10 had. Going to do a 4 year vertical when the 13 comes out with my last bottle of the 10.

Basically the point is that it's difficult to tell with the 12 based on the previous batches since they're all a little different.

Yeah Event Horizon is aged in several different bourbon oak barrels then blended.

I didn't think the '12 I had on tap was thin at all, obviously that differs from bottles. I've yet to have a stout from Olde Hickory that is "thin". I've never tried the hickory stick stout which is a lighter stout and I'm sure is "thin", but meant to be.
