yeah it's been a rotating release for a few years at least.

Does bring up the question as to whether they should be considered retired if they're still going to be brewed.

To me, "retired" should mean either never going to be brewed again or at least very unlikely it will be brewed again.

I think they just put it as retired because, thus far, it's only been bottled once. The last time I personally had it was the Winter Beer Fest in MI in January, and I know it's been making rounds at other festivals and events since.

There is often no way to know that. A better term might be Archived because right now I believe Retired just means that there has not been a review in a long time.

So if i review it this weekend, will it be knocked out of retirement?

Perhaps because it's not on the 2013 release calendar from Founders? or that it hasn't been made since 2011?

Although it could be part of the TBA listed in the Limited and Backstage section. http://foundersbrewing.com/?attachment_id=10861

They've made batches since the 2011 bottle release, correct? Seems kind of dumb to retire a beer that's still being brewed, albeit occasionally.

Does anyone know for sure that this is not still available in the taproom occasionally?

Are they still actually brewing/barreling it, or just gradually releasing kegs from the original batch?

I'm pretty sure this beer was only brewed once, and they're just continuing to release old kegs now and then

Retire it, and then it can pull a Brett Favre when it's released again.

You are very wrong. It's been brewed a number of times, it's only been bottled once. I don't know if it's been made since the bottling.

As for why it's retired, we don't know it'll be made again, and it apparently hasn't been made in 18 months (or whatever the threshold is to move into retired), so it's retired. When it comes back it'll be unretired. It's not like retired status matters for anything.

Something should be retired if it hasn't been brewed in over a year. The database management on these kinds of things is very inconsistent. For instance, Duck Duck Gooze should be retired, but it isn't. (Might be pulled along by rumors of a new release that pop up every 6 months.) Finding old bottles or old kegs being released shouldn't change that.

The only difference of it being listed as retired is that it doesn't show up in the top beers lists. Either the system automatically labeled it as retired based on add date (which seems weird since it's not listed as 'brewed once') or an admin manually retired it.

It's also incorrect that CBS was only brewed once.

but even if its never bottled again if they keep making it on tap it should not be retired
