Ugh, I can hear the bitching now.

All I know is that I'm pumped for this brew!

Awesome...can't wait. Loved their English take on the Emperial IPA. I can't see German going in the wrong direction.

People will complain that Stone is being a one trick pony, yet nobody complains about The Alchemist being a one trick pony... Stone makes great IPAs. They're sticking to their roots and what their good at, all while pushing the boundaries of the style. I for one am excited for this and will be buying multiple bottles on release!

Which is why their Russian Imperial Stout is so unpopular?

I didn't say they are a one trick pony. I don't think that in the slightest. Stone IRS is one of my top 5 non-barrel-aged stouts (probably top 3 actually!), and I love their Smoked Porter w/ Vanilla Beans (as well as several of the vertical epic series). There are however many people on this site that say Stone are one trick ponies and will complain about them releasing another IPA.

I would say Stone is far from a one trick pony...Stone IRS is great, as is Old Guardian, Levitation, and Sublimely Self-Righteous, IMO.

I don't see how anyone can call Stone a one trick pony.. Unless they mean they only brew great beers? That's one pretty good trick, though...

I'm interested and will definitely try it given the opportunity, but at this point I'd prefer to find more espresso IRS

First, it's unfair to complain of The Alchemist being a one trick pony. From what I understand, they had more beers - well-regarded - before the destruction of their brewery and brewpub.

Second, I think it's perfectly fine for people to call Stone a one-trick pony, as long as it's tongue-in-cheek. Yes, IRS (and EIRS) are great brews, and they make plenty of other good beers. It's still hard to deny that they brew a LOT of IPAs, and often focus on massively hoppy IPAs, at that. I don't think anyone posting on BA honestly believes that they exclusively brew IPAs, but it's still pretty funny.

I don't know; maybe I'm just an insensitive prick. Still like their beers, though.
