I'm not saying I'm done with them all together, but for me porters, stouts, and dark barrel aged beers are more of a winter drink. Now my palate has become bored and I am excited for summer releases. However, it seems like so many breweries are still releasing the opposite. I'm kind of over all of these imperial aged porters.

It's saison time. Dark beers will still be great at tastings, but I'm not craving them when I get out of work any more.

Funny because you would think that is how it works. However, I've found myself crushing on imperial stouts and BA imperial stouts lately. During the winter months I found myself buying IPA's almost everyday. I think it has to do with the release dates. I think my food craving helps dictate my beer craving, not so much the weather.

I will drink any beer any time of the year...esp IPAs, Sours, & Stouts

Its all about Berliner Weiss's this summer. Although I don't mind a big bad stout every once in a while.

Drinking a stout while sitting in the hot sun out on the patio does not sound very appealing..

I drink a lot more lighter beers this time of year for sure. Still drink darks ones too, just not as much as in the fall and winter.

I'm definitely not saying I won't pick up another porter until next winter, that is actually what is in my primary right now. As the weather is finally getting warm I've been really craving some Belgian wits and Czech style pilsners. It's also hard to keep up with all of these barrel aged releases.

Zhukovs is released in August, and you better believe ill be buying my fair share of it. I drink fresh beer. If its a saison released in winter or a stout released in summer, dosent matter to me.

Personally I don't really like them at all, so I don't drink them anytime during the year...

Over the years of craft beer drinking, homebrewing, and volunteer brewing I've come to see a beer characteristic that is largely overlooked; drinkability. Imperial stouts don't really do it for me anymore. 3% Pale ales, Helles lagers, English milds, etc are where it's at, a ton of flavor and character nuances that don't limit you to one small snifter pour.

Being able to handle a high ABV beer is where it actually is

I definitely goes through phases, but my mood can switch like that, and I'm onto something else.

What about Dark Saisons, Black IPA's, Belgian Strong Dark Ales, and Quads? Do you consider those dark beers also?

An emphatic hell no. That would leave too few styles left. Plus, stouts are the best IMO.

I tend to lessen up on the high gravity beers as it gets hotter,no matter if they're dark or pale, though even that isn't an absolute. That still leaves plenty of normal gravity stouts, porters, dunkels, schwartzbiers, etc. to enjoy, and many of them accompany a bbq quite well, thankyouverymuch!

We recently got Czechvar Dark here in NJ, and I forsee myself drinking a whole lot of it this summer- it's right at that sweet spot where it is not so heavy but has roasty/malty flavor to spare, plus they go down real easy.
