Has anyone actually drank a B1, or 2012, Chocolate Rain lately? I've been seeing some B1's get traded recently and was curious.

I have 1 2012 CR left and a few 2013's, but it isn't a beer I plan on holding onto too long (the 2012 will be the next I drink), as I'm afraid the vanilla and cocoa will fade over time, turning it more like the normal Black Tuesday over time.

    Anyone have thoughts?

    General rule:

Those who have loads of a beer will say its drinking great.

Those who don't have loads of a beer will say its going downhill.

I opened one of my 2012's a couple of months ago and it's a mixed bag. Some of the vanilla had faded but then again some of the original heat also faded. The chocolate/cocoa seemed to fade less than the vanilla.

I tried some batch 1 about a month ago and it was amazing. No heat. The recent batch has some heat and is a bit more complex. A different flavor with every sip. The first batch tastes like a chocolate milkshake and flows together nicely.

I had a batch 2 last August, drank pretty well for what it is. I've never been a huge fan of The Bruery in general, and especially not their stouts. Just because it hides its alcohol doesn't mean it's a great beer. Just my opinion though, anyway...I wouldn't recommend aging Chocolate Rain simply because it's already so sweet. It's only going to get sweeter.

Yeah BT and CR. They made Grey Monday too but it was very limited and I'm not giving up good stuff for that. I can already imagine what it's like from having their stouts before and reading reviews. Everyone is different, some people are blown away by these beers but they don't impress me. I think they hide their alcohol well and that's impressive, but they lack in flavor and are too sweet IMO.

2011 BT may be the best tasting stout I've ever had, praying when my 2012 bottles come in that that vintage is as good... :sunglasses:

Opened my last '12 in January(?) and it was missing some vanilla, but still awesome/a bit smoother. Opened a '13 at DLD this year and it tasted like a marshmallow. Won't be aging the rest of mine.

We did a complete vert of CR at DLD this year (next to a complete BT Vert and Grey Monday, for context). the 2013 was good for sure, but like the grey monday and 2012 BT, it was pretty hot (i don't mind hot beers, mind you).
The B1 CR and the 2010 BT were both sublime, and honestly i thought the CR might have taken the cake (and BT is my favorite beer... or so i though!). the B2 was also very, very good.

I suppose it might have lost some of its subtle delicate flavors, but the increase in smooth, chocolatey goodness as the alcohol faded was really something very nice...

so, after all of that: ISO B1 CR!!!
