I think cbeer nails it. On the long list of perspectives and issues that Phil, Dan, Bob, Shaun, and the rest of the HFB team consider is not--and should not be--whether they do whatever they can to fulfill customers' checklists. (Based on the decision to scrub the May release, they very justifiably prioritize the treatment of their neighbor's hay field over the need to fulfill others' checklists.) This make-up plan increases the chances that more people will be able to purchase at least one of the beers; perhaps customers will just need to prioritize which flavor of awesomesauce they most desire.

And no, I can't imagine this being about enabling all the locals to get as much as they want "during their breaks or after work." Not many people have the 2-3 hour break it would take to drive to Greensboro, wait in line, then drive back to work in Montpelier, Barre, or Burlington. And they'll still close at 5pm...not many people get out of work that early.

I'm not 100% positive but I think HF has had silent releases before. I don't know when or for what release but I think it was to try and limit the crowd that showed up for bottle releases.

Either way, no matter how HF chooses to release bottles, I enjoy going up there and getting my hands on a few growlers of great stuff. I love it up there, with or without a bottle release.

I am heading up on Saturday, June 15th. Does anyone think that the Pro will still be available at that point? I have never been to a bottle release before and have no idea what to expect. (Going either way:slight_smile:

Not that he has any problems selling his beer but from a purely business standpoint it makes sense to stagger them. You come for a release, you buy a few other growlers while your there to make it worth for while. Simple. Even if your in VT you are not necessarily close to HF, it's quite a drive and the last few miles are not paved. Still a great place to grab a brew, if I lived within 4 hr's it would be a monthly run, except winter. Would never do that run with even the slightest chance of snow.

I went up on a Saturday when the released Norma on a wednesday and there was still plenty of bottles left by the time I got up there Saturday. I don't know if this bottle release will be more in demand as Norma, that was just my experience going up on a Saturday week of a bottle release.

Haha lotta BA's apparently seem to think the folks who are local to breweries are the ones who don't deserve their beer.

Truth of the matter is none of us, not locals, not overnight travelers, deserve anything except the ones who are there to buy it when beer is put up for sale.

The sooner they start requiring VT id's to purchase stop announcing anything, the better.

nobody knows, you're better off not even asking. everyone thought Juicy would go immediately and it sat for a long time. others flew out the door.

Yeah..probably shouldn't have even asked. I didn't mean to create a sense of urgency on my part.

    Exactly!

The sense of arrogance and entitlement by the OP in their opening post is the anti-thesis of beer advocacy.

He called it a "crap move". It's a move that will allow more people to enjoy HF releases.

Why is that a bad thing?

If he thinks that's so bad, try being a local and finding the beer gone before you even have a chance to buy any. Guess who's buying it up?

You mean to tell me that there aren't any great beers in your neck of the woods?

It's a bummer for me personally because I thought I was going to be able to grab all 3 on the 26th and now I don't have the vacation days to grab any of these. But people should remember that if you got them it was only going to be because someone else didn't. And if you don't get them it means that someone else does. There just isn't enough to go around so remember that however much this way sucks for you is how much the previous way was going to suck for someone else.

I'll be up again ASAP and I know I'll leave happy, no matter what's available. And cheers to everybody who gets to try these. I'm sure they're going to be fantastic.
