Another poster had called him out for having only joined this site in 2012, which really has nothing to do with this. I don't actually agree with him. In fact, I think it's a good move on HFs part, but that doesn't mean someone should have to feel ashamed for being relatively new to this site and voicing their own opinion.

I honestly don't care about when he joined the site.

It's that opinion that caught me off-guard.

But other people do seem to care when really they shouldn't. I've seen this attitude in other threads as well and it's not very welcoming. Fortunately, outside of these forums, the beer world is generally a very friendly place.

Enjoy them if you get them. If not, enjoy the fact that others will.

    I see your point too.

As for my attitude towards those who feel entitled to purchase HF, etc? I guess I'm just turning into a beer curmudgeon. I've been a beer geek for over 10 years now. I'm just saying, there is great beer almost everywhere and that people should explore what's available in their backyard and then branch out. Thanks to an improved beer selection in my corner of VT, I've been blessed with the ability to try stuff that I used to have to travel just to buy. At the same time, it's helped me to appreciate what is brewing in my own "backyard" more, if you know what I mean.

I'm not a big fan of the attitude either but it's bound to happen as craft beer becomes more popular. I mean, I consider HF to be one of my local breweries because it's only 70 miles from my house and there's not much closer, and even I don't try to go for their releases. I'm content just getting my growlers filled once or twice a month.

If I were still a newspaper editor I would frame this and tell my reporters that if they ever wrote anything this convoluted I would fire them on the spot.

Seems that if you are newly registered on this website, then it will be pointed out whenever you express your opinion. Your new here, keep quiet. This is the kind of discussion that lead me to register in the first place. Good discussion as long it is kept in perspective. Go to far, complain to much, and people like Shaun Hill may just decide to retire.

Not at all, this is the kind of site that welcomes you with open arms if you take the time to use the site's resources to learn what we are about, what answers to your questions have already been given -at least since the crash-, and to learn what are some of the more basic things that folks do and are on this site.

Take the time to give thoughtful reviews that are of a helpful nature and you are in like Flynn.

It seemed to many that 2012 marked the first time a majority of new users didn't bother with any of that.

Spontaneous? Give me a break! Didn't you know that in addition to being a world class brewer that Shaun is also a super villain who has the power to control the weather and uses those powers to create first world problems for entitled beer drinkers?

It's been this way for years actually. Some people just skip Beerfly and go straight to starting threads. I think they don't trust the expertise that has accumulated for years in the form of beer reviews, brewery reviews and place reviews. That's even more disturbing. If you're not willing to find the answers for yourself, what are you doing here in the first place?

Don't forget that places like Littleton, NH and even parts of Quebec are closer to Greensboro than Burlington, let alone southern Vermont. Being a local doesn't necessarily follow state lines, and really no one--local or otherwise--is entitled to beer from anywhere, though I definitely like the idea of locals having at least an equal opportunity to support the brewers and the drink the beer brewed around them. Personally, I just wish I could get up there more often for growler fills of Edward, never mind even trying for the releases.

If it were spotlighted better on this site I think more new people would make the effort to use it.

Was being sarcastic...just wish they'd stop announcing anything.

Then again, I don't understand why anyone would drive 8 hours RT for any beer, let alone the 12 or 16hrs that some people do, on a regular basis.

obviously shaun hill is going to retire because people don't like his bottle release policies. he was just saying that the other day. "you know, franch, i love making beer, and love how its success has allowed me to pursue my dream and passion of making beer full time and try new and different things, meet the great brewers of the world, and offer homage to my ancestors, favorite philosophers, and juicy, but those two threads on BA are really making me consider packing it all in."

Are you saying there's a God named Juicy that I should be worshipping? Because that's a church I'd join, just saying.

Beerfly? Never heard of it till you mentioned it. But then I had been using this site for years for reviews and only realized a couple months ago that there was a forum. Some of us older guys are just not as Internet savvy.
