I like stouts, milk/sweet stouts, imperials, coffee/breakfast, BA stouts....why is it that I just do not enjoy founders imperial stout? I have liked almost everything I've tried from them including two vintages of kbs (12' & 13'), I really love fbs but I just don't like fis.

It's not just founders, I have had bcbs and bcbcs, BA boris, expedition, double cream stout, moloko, murda'd, baller, stone IRS and espresso IRS, among others. Besides dark horse too cream and one oatmeal stout this is the only stout that I just don't like despite my best efforts. It may seem trivial and stupid but during the season for stouts shouldn't I like this one? Thoughts? (take it easy on me, my walez game is very limited)

Edit: I realize this isn't stout "season", I just meant during the stout release season (fall, winter, early spring)

I love pretty much any kind of stout, yet I do not like Bourbon County. People have different tastes, if you don't like it just don't buy it! Very simple, there's tons of other choices out there.

That's true, I guess everyone has different palates/tastes. As much as I'd like to when it's in season I won't be trying FIS again.

Because you suck at beer. Seriously, though, taste is just an individual thing. I personally love this beer both fresh and aged (2-3 years is the sweet spot for me), but if we all liked the same thing, there would be no need for all the variety we have. It sounds like you have found a bunch of great stouts that you enjoy, and based on your tastes I'll bet there are plenty more out there that will fit your palate, so just enjoy those and don't loose any sleep over fis (or better yet, send it all my way, as I miss having regular access to founders). Also, how do you put effort into liking a beer?

FIS is a weird beer. I hated it at first. I loved KBS and Breakfast much more, but now, their imperial stout is probably my favorite. It's very weird to me that I feel this way...but it's the truth.

One of my favorites. Not one of your favorites. We all dont like the same beers.

Its funny though, it seems that there is more variation for stout preferences then other beers (at least with the people I drink with). When me and my buddies drink together usually we all agree on a great beer when trying (with a little variation), but stouts we frequently disagree with. I think the complexity of flavors from the malts might taste differently to different people. I really don't like stone imperial russian stout.

Because it is an acrid, over-the-top American mess of a beer.Surely not the of deft hands.

Taste is so subjective that the word "taste" is used to describe a person's subjective likes and dislikes. To each his own.

Agree with others. I bought a 4pk of FIS the day it came out this year and hated it, too much ethanol taste. Tried it again on draft about 2 months later and loved it. Went back to my bottles and they are much better with a few months on them. However, it's not my favorite impy stout for sure. If you don't like it, you don't like it, don't hate on yourself for that.

You can play this in so many ways:

    1. Just suck it up and drink it to look cool for the brahs. Don't rock the boat and pretend you like it until you learn to.

    2. Buy a bottle or two and make a drain pour YouTube video with snide commentary on it being overrated.

    3. Except that your palette doesn't like these beers right now (tastes do change) and drink what you like without worrying about it. It's not worth stressing over.

NOTE: Please no one really do number 2. (Re-reading that last sentence was really fun)

It's not so much effort, as much as drinking it and attempting to appreciate the taste for what it is. I had it 3 out of the 4-pack I bought in December so far (the third while I posted this thread).

    I'm totally with you.
ha, I just organized my stash and found a whole 4/pk of FIS. Sorted it in to the "meh" beers.
Speedway is divine, bcbs is awesome, beer geek breakfast is awesome.... shit, I even adore choklat. I love so many stouts, but FIS is only a "meh" to me.

Everyone has their quirks. While I may love FIS and can't understand how you can not love it I can't stand Bell's Expedition Stout which others adore.
