According to their facebook it was a 12oz. bottle and around 300 bottles produced. Apparently the first ~70 people in line got 2/person and the rest got 1/person. I belive it was $12/bottle.

Need to give up at least 1 BA Kopi, 1 Mimosa and 1 original Apple Brandy Huna.

Or treat it like BA Abraxas and hope people are more reasonable next year. :flushed:

Hot damnation, this has nothing to do with reasonable.

Most people only have one bottle, & the keg blew at some ridiculous time like 8:30 AM. If you can follow that chain of logic, the only way most people who have a bottle are going to be able to taste it is to drink that single bottle. Therefore, most of the people who have a single bottle (like me) aren't going to give it up. For Anything. Period.

The simple fact is that there are going to be a tiny, tiny amount of bottles on the trading market & only a miniscule amount of butt-hurt BAs who want to try it are going to get to try it. Just because people want to drink what they bought rather than trading it (oh, the HORROR!) has nadda to do with being 'reasonable'.

Sorry, but the sense of entitlement around here is thick enough to spread on toast.

Lighten up, man. :astonished: I haven't attempted to trade for TG stuff and I simply won't because I'm not willing to give up what it takes right now. There is no sense of entitlement in this thread.

Like I said, I will try next year, when, hopefully, things are more reasonable, which I guess I need to qualify as more reasonable TO ME (whether that is due to a larger release or the fact that folks have had it already).

I swear to god, these newer breweries know about BA hype and fully exploit it. There's just no other explanation for why you'd do a release like that.

FYI Toppling Goliath have been around since 2009. They have quietly (and not so quietly) been making a name for themselves. I know they made some waves at the 2011 GTMW and by the 2012 event had people seeking them out. They only in the past year have released bottles (outside of growlers). They have recently built a new facility, which still isn't 100% operational, all their recent release came form there original location (looks like it may have been a Dairy Queen in a past life). It is small space with very little space for barrel aging and fermentation vessels. They have been simply limited by the size constraints of their operation, they are most definitely not exploiting BA hype.
To say they are new brewery is disingenuous. They have been making solid beer for a while and will soon have the ability to increase their production to satiate some of the demand for their beer. They are great guys (hanging out in line with the huddled masses at Darkness day, sharing their beer) and they make great beer.

Just tired of the constant whining. **Why can't I GET THIS BEER?** And don't to damage a single brain cell thinking about it. Plus, I have no idea what your post means.

People bitch because traders 'hoard' special releases.
People bitch because people drink, & don't trade, special releases.

    See the commonality?

4 years old is still pretty new, I meant new in the grand scheme of things (CCB is about that old and they're definitely a new brewery). And I never said they weren't nice guys or anything, but that's just a manifestly stupid way to do a release in this day and age. If you can only make 300 bottles, especially 12 ounce bottles, it shouldn't go into bottles, put it on draft. The only reason to do a release of that size versus a day of all-draft is to feed the BA hype machine. (And don't pretend that brewers don't care about this stuff, those high rankings are hugely valuable to people like Three Floyds, and the way they behave is perfectly explained by knowing this and taking advantage of it.)

You need a beer, man. This is the internet. It was designed for people to bitch about things anonymously.

straight gerund phrasing in the cut. jk, I know what you are say.

I get it, 300 bottles, no complaining here. KBS and Parabola exist, if I get to try it thats coo, if not, I can always go back to building Gundam models.

You also have to realize where they are, if they put it all on draft it would languish.

Also, while four years is quite young in the grand scheme of things, it still predates the boom of the past two years.

But someone above just said there was draft that kicked at 8:30AM. People wouldn't come out to have it on draft, only to buy bottles? Some fans they're rewarding with those bottles.

And you're sort of right, being young isn't that big of a deal. Portsmouth did the same thing with Kate and they're old as fuck. FFF does it with DL, they're old too. But it seems like the newer a brewery is, the more likely they are to handle their special releases in a manner that maximizes BA attention. Or maybe I'm just giving too much weight to CCB in my thinking.

I wouldn't have made a special trip, I would have waited until the next time I was going down to get growlers.

They are the kings of the hype machine.

If you want to start a grammar blog, I'll contribute. People round these parts complaining about beer snobs makes me laugh. Until one knows - or becomes - a true grammar snob, one has no concept of snobbery and the self-satisfaction of superiority. It's a wonderful thing.

The only thing he forgot to mention is that this beer is absolutely delicious. One of the few beers that actually lives up to the hype, IMO.

FWIW, the folks at Toppling Goliath seemed to have the absolute best intentions. Serving in order of arrival, having muffins and cookies available for free, and genuinely seeming to enjoy their beer and sharing it with everybody who came out. Very "Iowa nice". Also, this beer was supposed to be released at the Assassin release, but they had issues with getting label approval, hence the second release.

I have absolutely no doubt that this is the case. There are relatively few breweries out there who aren't in it for the right reasons and who don't care about their customers. That said, there's no reason they can't be really nice guys and also feed the hype machine.

And, to be clear, I really don't know if it's the case here. But you have to suspect that these guys know what they're doing. Is it really possible that anyone who founded a brewery in 2009 doesn't know how the BA attention game works?

FWIW, there's quite a lot of breweries in the PNW who are absolutely not interested in playing the "BA attention game".
