Ha! Seeing how it's 15% and a bomber, might want to wait. I guess if you don't care that much, stick it way in the back. Although it would develop a lot better if it was warmer, around 60. I find I like barleywines a lot more when they got some age on them, at least a year, preferably 2-4 if I can hold out that long. Most of my cellar beers are barleywines for that reason.

Drink it now, just listen to some pointers first and you won't be disappointed.
#1 This is not king henry, forget that beer exists.
#2 Forget that you paid/traded $20+ for it.
#3 Think triple IPA in maple bourbon.
That should put you in the right mindset.

How could you NOT want to drink it now after reading those three points?! I think I'll drink mine tomorrow. :grinning:

I really enjoyed it, I've got a second I've got stashed for down the line. I thought it was similar to ba Bigfoot myself. They do a great job integrating the alc too.

If u haven't had it I'd say crack it now. It shouldn't be that hard to get another, and I'm sure people will be willing to trade it for locals even

I drank it about a month ago and was not impressed. Very estery and the bitterness wasn't well done, too rough and the heat too hot.

I enjoyed Boltcutter enough that I returned to my bottle shop and bought 4 more to Cellar.

I genuinely despised Bolt Cutter. Just merely my opinion. i say the more age you can put on it the better. Just way too much sweetness mixed with a strange amount of tropical hops. To each their own, but if it were offered to me again I'd prefer it to be a few years old.

you guys are (mostly) all too harsh. Boltcutter was tasty upon first release. It can only be better (smoother, mellower) today, no? The only part hard to swallow was the price. Other than that? Very tasty. Pretty intoxicating too

I had it the other night expecting to dislike it with all the hate and I thought it was great. It's sweet but I liked that about it.

Oddly enough, I asked this same question when talking to Jeff from Founders at Capone's Founders tap takeover on Tuesday. He said he was drinking some with the brewmaster last week who said it was "aging well, but hasn't peaked yet". Now, these are the words of the guy that brewed it, so the 2 bottles in my basement will be staying where they are for another year at least.

I cracked one Friday. Given its harsh reviews, it exceeded expectations. That being said, I would hold onto it because in general, it seems the more age its getting on it, the more positive the reviews are becoming.

I've got 4 bottles left of it and plan on cracking one within the next month or two. Seems like a beer that would age very well so I plan on stretching them out over the course of 2-3 more years.

It's amusing how much hatred this beer gets, which in my opinion stems largely from resentment over them not releasing Black Biscuit and CBS every month.

I drank a bottle shortly after it was released and then tried a sample at a tasting a few weeks ago. It's definitely heading in the right direction, although I thought it was pretty good fresh. I still have two bottles I'm going to sit on for quite a while though.
