Gueuze Fond Tradition from Brouwerij Van Honsebrouck made me appreciate sours. Smooth sailing from there.

Abacus and Stone Old Guardian aged 18mo in Bourbon rye barrels made barley wines drinkable for me. I know these two, especially Abacus are a slightly different style than say, Bigfoot, but these helped ease me into the depth of intensely bitter alcohol that makes a barley wine.

Jester King's Funk Metal made me rethink my whole attitude towards sour. Now I'm looking for one every time I go.

Sucks was my first DIPA and it converted me to the style. I like it better than an IPA even.

Didn't think I was a fan of Flanders Red, until I tried Rodenbach Grand Cru.
Not a huge DIPA fan until trying Pliny and (just as much) fresh Double Crooked Tree (tap)

so far the best I can do is say that American-made stouts and porters are freaking good ... before finding them, I only sort of liked Guinness and REALLY had to be in the mood to drink it.

    Yeti
    Espresso Oak-Aged Yeti
    Karbach's Hellfighter
    (512) Pecan Porter
    Lakewood's The Temptress

... those five have been game-changers of a sort for me, but it's the style more than the particular brew within a style that i'm talking about

I usually hate american ales but I recently had one from Colorado called Coors light. It tasted like they put put a tap into the bunghole of the RockIes.

It's beer, guys. How many of us reallly liked beer when we first tried it? Huh? When I first got into craft beer I HATED IPAs, I HATED Oatmeal Stouts. They don't teach that $hit in college. They taught Miller Lite, they taught Budweiser, they taught Red, White and Blue (remember that?), they taught Piels, they taught National Bohemium (they're still teachin' that!), Old German, Old Milwaukee, PBR, Schlitz, Fu#king Elephant Beer.

Now, less than 15 IBUs and I snub my nose at it. Seriously, (and that's wrong!). Even my favorite stout... EVO Craft's Rise Up...has 48 IBUs!

    Drink more. Hate less. Beer!

Still waiting on my "gamechanger" beer in the ESB style...

If Alesmith can't make me like it, who can?

It was a while ago, and it's not available anymore, but Rauchenfels Steinlager got me into smoked beers. It was smoked 'just enough' and had that incredible caramelized quality from the hot rocks being added to the wort. And, being a 'new' beer at the time ('93ish), was fresher than the other rauchbiers on the shelves and tasted like it.

Came here to state just that...Two Hearted from Bell's kept me hunting and pecking through the crowded IPA landscape. After my 1st couple west coast IPAs years ago had me running in the opposite direction. However over time & developing palate I fear NO IPA & worse case those I don't like, much like any style, are a one and done situation.

SN Summerfest thankfully brought me out of the whole "all lagers are clearly inferior to ales" mentality. It was like discovering good beer all over again, awesome eye-opening experience for me.
