I plan on drinking them, already drank one, but I received some 2007/2008/2009 in a recent trade. Not sure how long is too long to hold onto a beer even one that ages well. The one I had was terrific as usual, a little softer more mellow version of say a 2012 brew. Not as hot but it's 13% ABV too and not 15%.

'07 is on the decline. '08 is starting to go. '09 is drinking great!!

    Get a '10, '11, '12 and start drinking.

I have some 11 and 12, I like the fact there's no real rush to consume them. Is the ABV part of the aging equation? Is a 15% brew more ageble than one at say 10%?

A quick thought , if 2008 is on decline does this mean Rare is now over valued?

We did 3,5,6,7,8,9,10,11,12 recently. Everything before 08 was drinkable and not bad, but certainly not as good as they'd been before. 08 was still really good but I'd drink it ASAP. 09 was perfect. 10 through 12 were all solid. Seems like 2-4 years is the sweet spot.

Why? That's a new Rogue beer.

Perfectly cromulent picture to have on a beer site.

'09 is drinking fantastic right now. '07 is getting a bit oxidized and '08 is very fruit forward. Certainly not a bad beer by any means, but I'm personally not a fan of dark fruit forward stouts.

Did the person you got them from buy them fresh? If so, what condition were they stored in? 5-6 years of cellaring can go multiple ways depending on the conditions they were in during that time. If the 07' was traded a couple of times, kept in a fridge/closet/box/under a bed/wine cellar etc.... it all plays a part.

Either way, I'd be happy to have them, but this beer is going to be continued to be brewed for in the unforseen future, so find people who haven't had them, do a blind vertical tasting, post results. That's much more fun than holding onto beer forever assuming it's just getting worse and worse.

No clue on the life of these bottles, but I assume they were at worst placed in a closet which is dark and room temp. I don't have reefer room for all my stuff, but the above applies for my BA stuff as I live in an Apt and space is scarce.

Actually I kinda like a fruit forward kinda beer without the fruit. Popped a EC 20 at a bottle share and I was really amazed, figs, plums , raisins, a little barrel influence, terrific body , velvety smooth, done side by side with an EC 12 which was a lot of bourbon. I'm by no means an experienced big stout guy, but the EC 20 was the best BA Stout I've ever had by far.

08 has been crap for the last year.
09 has been drinking flawlessly from fresh to this current time.
    10 is okay, but boozey.
