I'm looking to split my drive from Syracuse, NY to St. Louis (in 1 week) and it appears that Indianapolis and Columbus are both at that 1/2 way-ish point for me... Considering I'm pretty unfamiliar with both areas I figured I'd ask which one can provide the superior food/beer experience?
**I'd prefer a single venue with a mix of outstanding food and local (not necessarily in house) taps.
***A gas station selling red bull, sudafed, and 5hr energy is not an option.
(I can find hotels for about the same price in both areas, aka it's not really a factor)

    Cheers

It wasn't one of your choices, but if you are taking 90 to 271 you may want to consider Cleveland. It's leaps and bounds better than Columbus and only 120 miles north. Sorry for deviating, just pointing out an alternitive.

Obviously being from Indy I'm a bit of a homer here but I'd have to pick here. There are a few places in Indy that are just cannot misses. If you're wanting great food and beer you cannot go wrong with Brugge Brasserie. Fantastic Belgian beers with some in house sours usually on tap. The mussels being served are also amazing. Another great option is The Rathskeller in downtown Indy. Drinking in a German hall with fantastic beer and classic German dishes is pretty damn fun. The Beergarden is usually open in the summer and offers a really cool view of the city. Another great beer bar 20 tap is right down the road from Brugge.

It was definitely a consideration and may actually help with timing my arrival to STL as well...

If you decide on Columbus, you should check out The Crest. One of my new favorite gastropubs. Lots of awesome craft taps and some really amazing food. Out-of-this world burgers.

What you need is to find someone who has experienced the beer scene in both cities so that you can get a fair comparison/evaluation. Both cities have good stuff going for them. I've been to Columbus and can vouch for a good time there, but I've never stayed in Indy to be able to be of any help there. Good luck in choosing the results of your homer-popularity contest.

Now, to offer another alternative, take I-80 across Ohio and to NW Indiana to Munster and visit Three Floyds. Then head to St. Looie.

CBC alone beats any one spot in Indy as far as a beer & food combo.

Indy is good, but if I had to choose, I'd choose Columbus.

In Columbus you can go to CBC and elevator and world of beer are all in walking distance from one another

I've lived in both cities. Indianapolis has more brewpubs / small breweries, but Columbus has many more multi-tap bars and beer-centric restaurants. I'd pick Columbus.

As another person who has spent their entire life divided between these two cities, it kills me to admit that Indy is the better spot for the night. #rolltribe

It ended up being close at the polls, but I've book my hotel and...it looks like I'll be drinking bodhi all night folks!

So many good choices in Columbus. The Crest (obviously), The Pint Room, 101 Beer Kitchen, Pies and Pints, Barley's Smokehouse, Dirty Franks, Bodega, among others.

Also, The Crest is only a couple streets down on Indianola from Savor Growl, which is one of the better shops in Columbus, offering everything from bottles, to growlers, to glassware.

Indy? Haven't been there since I was 18, so I got no real opinion.
