So I made a trade last week and my box got damaged in transit. The lady working at the shipping center called and said I had a damaged bottle and that I should never try to ship beer there again because it is illegal and could get in trouble. Has anyone ran into any issues like this?

Say thanks and you didn't know that. Then learn to pack better and keep on shipping. I'd likely use a different UPS drop as well for a while.

Yeah, you don't want to get involved with the mail police, fearsome they are.

I thought I read something last week about the USPS oking the shipping of beer. Or was that just from licensed distributors and shops??? Damn my memory is failing me on the most important of things these days. And I understand OP went through UPS, but it could be another means of getting the goodies shipped. Just throwing it out there.

I’m pretty sure it’s a big no-no with private traders like most of us to go through the USPS. Not to say I haven’t done it before, but if you pack well enough it’s the cheapest route, but riskier. UPS and FedEx I think frown upon the idea of people doing that, but they’re a private company and they want to make money, so they aren’t going to make a federal thing out of it. Like someone else said, just learn to pack better next time. Remember, bubble wrap is your friend!

I actually spent a lot of time packaging and it was very secure

lol so what do you want to know then? general consensus is that you should pack better, use extra thick cardboard or even two boxes one smaller than the other with each bottle padded with bubble wrap.

You could always drive the beer to it's destination.

Who said anything about shipping beer? This forum is just for trading and such. How it gets there is beyond me.

I've had plenty of things break and FedEx just ships the box back in a garbage bag with the broken contents removed.

This is both a testament to how chill FedEx is about the whole thing, and apparently how shitty I am at packaging my beer.

I am continually drawn to these "shipping" threads secretly hoping that a new storyline emerges at some point but alas I remain disappointed.

I ship carrier pigeon, so much better, though it sucks that I have to send each bottle solo and can't send growlers.

I've had problems with Fed EX and one with UPS, so IMO they're equal. And they don't keep as red flag list or I'd be on it. I also pack well, but still nothing is completely crush proof if they punt it off the back of a truck 20lb of beer doesn't bounce real well.

Can't send growlers? You need to step up your carrier pigeon game - strap it to 4 of 'em.

What's the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow again? Perhaps we can see if a couple of them together can get beers tot he destination quicker!
