Hey folks, lots of recommendations for brewpubs and bottle shops in East Lansing. Anything out in the west end? I will be in that area for work next week and am looking for a place with good food and taps. I've heard of Reno's.... anything else? Cheers!
Eagle Monk Pub and Brewery is kind of on the west side (Mt. Hope Rd). They are suppose to have pretty good pizza but I haven't had a chance to try much of their beer. If your looking for a good bottle shop on the west side Horrocks is probably your best bet. Its a huge produce place but they do have lots of brew.
I opened this thread thinking, "where the hell is West Lansing." Lansing is not very big and the good places in East Lansing, like Crunchy's, are right on the west side of East Lansing. If you are staying in downtown Lansing you are only a couple of miles away. Also, since it is now warm out, the best thing you can do with your time is take a walk on MSU's campus. I especially recommend a walk by the river where members of the fairer sex tend to lay out to get a tan.
Best places in the Lansing/East Lansing area: Bars/Restaurants: Crunchy's Reno's (East and West) Beggar's Banquet Twenty tap Soup Spoon Brewpubs: BAD Brewing (Mason) Eaglemonk (below average beer, IMO) Bottleshops: Big Ten (various locations) Vine N Brew (Okemos) Tom's Goodrich's
As a former student, I can verify that this information is valid and should be acted on at your earliest convenience. It's a shame you can't drink on campus anymore. Was always nice to grab a sixer or something good and just hang out. Now, it's only on football saturdays. Ahh well.
I still remember many a day my senior year sitting out front of a building on campus with a cooler of beer. We had a huge tailgate during finals week in front of the Natural Science Building and have away hot dogs and beer to people coming or going from exams.
I tell you what, it's not really a craft beer bar but Moriarty's is one of my favorite places to have a brew.
A new place is supposed to open up in Old Town next week, they said Monday 17th on their facebook page Here's their proposed tap list: http://zoobiesoldtowntavern.com/Beer.html I've been meaning to check out Moriarty's for a few months. Will head there soon.
In the downtown area the Mid-town Brewing Company (formerly an independent Michigan Brewing Company pub) usually has an interesting tap list with Michigan beers, although it is only a dozen or so taps. I believe they are now producing their own beers that might also be available, although I have not been there yet to check them out.
I travel to Lansing every week and stay on the west side. Horrocks is a decent bottle shop. For entertainment, nothing beats midnight dinner at Denny's on W Saginaw. It's like a mashup of an Edward Hopper panting and a Here Comes Honey Booboo episode.
How is Odie's holding up? My sister lives a few blocks east off of Kalamazoo and I used to stop in there when I would visit her but I haven't been up there in a few years. I remember going to Goodrich(sp?) a couple times and finding a decent selection there as well.
