This is basically where I stand. It has to be offensive for me to pour out, but I am pretty good about avoiding buying beers that have a chance to be that bad. If it is tolerable, it is going down my throat. I hate the idea of literally pouring money down my drain.

The term "drainpour" indicates that the beer was bad enough that you inverted the glass and disposed of the beer down a drain or onto the piece of ground you were standing on when you made the decision to not finish it. Not that it sucked but you choked it down anyway. It's never meant anything but the literal meaning.
    Drainpouring is drainpouring.

In this day and age, with access to sites like this one, it's pretty hard to be caught off guard; back in like 1995 it was a different story. And even then, most of the 'bad' beers I got were the result of poor sanitation or oxidation. Nowadays, that sort of reputation is difficult for the brewers to keep hidden.

It's rare I even pick up a 'blah' beer nowadays, but if I do I just try to have fun with it, maybe come up with an interesting blend or something.

Only 2 in my lifetime and they were just awful and also near the end of some pretty good tastings:

Mikkeller Black Hole - Scotch Barrel - Tastes like chewing on old rubber tires, no need to choke that down at the end of the night when we were already pretty drunk

Nightstalker - Possibly infected, either that or myself and the two other guys trying it all have the same dislike of that beer. Again, at the end of the night but we all thought something was wrong with it.

The only beers I've ever drain poured were my guests' wounded soldiers the morning after a shindig. I've never drain poured anything for not tasting good.

I'm 37, and drain pour when I don't like something. Although I answered 25+ before I read the "not counting infected" caveat. Rarely buy more than one bottle of a new beer. And I make 90% of what I drink. Sometimes I'm not happy with my efforts and I dump it. I don't see what the big deal is.

    cheers--

I poured a DFH Aprihop out the other day. Not that I dislike the beer entirely, it just wasn't jiving with what we were drinking that day.

Every time I wake up to an unfinished beer, I put it in the fridge to use it to cook with for dinner. Often for braising meats and making sauces.

I haven't yet, and unless there was a problem i/e infection, i likely won't. Another reason for this is that I typically purchase styles that I am familiar with and enjoy. Cheers!

Please explain to me how such a thing is possible. In college I used to pass out or fall asleep on opened beers all the time, but that beer was shitty and I was usually very drunk.

I have never had a craft beer that was offensive enough tasting to dump it down the drain. Not that I haven't tasted beers I didn't care for, but for me, as long as it's not completely skunked out, I will choke it down.

Well for me I get up at 6am and get ready for work, then work all day and come home and chase an 18 month old around for the next few hours, then after she is finally asleep I crack a beer. If I am on the couch with my feet up watching TV it is very possible I could nod off before finishing my beer.

Don't see how it is out of the realm of possibility for you.

Does Shipyard Pumpkinhead count as craft beer (or beer even) ? Someone left it in my fridge...I really tried to drink it, I really did. I mean, I even choke down those horrible SA fruit beers in the mixed packs. Waste not, want not.

Edit: for demographical studies, I'm pushing 40.

2 beers, well technically more like one beer plus a sample of a beer. The full beer I dumped was a bottle of Hitachino Nest XH. Fucking vile. Took a few sips, trying to like it, but it wasn't happening. The second was a sample of Long Trail Triple Bag with Bret that I got at the Vermont Brewer's Festival in 2011. I typically love all things Long Trail, but that one was gnarly.

Typically if there is a beer I dislike I will find another use for it (usually cooking). However, the XH was so horrid I couldn't imagine incorporating into any food-stuff and the Triple Bag was at a beer fest, so I wasn't going to do shit with that.

Someone left 4 Shipyard Pumpkins at my house last November. They are sitting in my basement until next fall when I give them to someone that "loves that stuff."
