This just adds even more good news heading into The Festival. I'm also pretty certain that Tod and Urbain from Struise have a collaboration brew coming out during next week's festivities in Portland.

Just read this and was going to post about it, good thing I checked to see if it was already a thread! Some cool coastal New England breweries opening up. Still have yet to try Blue Lobster.

The Portsmouth/Seacoast area is really turning into one of the best collections of breweries in New England. A few years ago, it was just Smuttynose, Portsmouth Brewery and Redhook, and already there were some really fantastic beers being brewed among them. Now, adding to those guys, there's Throwback, Blue Lobster and Earth Eagle. Plus, the 7th Settlement brewpub is set to open in Dover this fall, along with a tenant brewer, One Love, planning to use the equipment there, and as far as I know the Barley Pub is still planning to add a brewery to the pub in the future. Now, Tod Mott is set to go just across the river in Kittery. I've always loved the Seacoast, but the place keeps looking better and better. I've got to check out the exhibit about brewing in Portsmouth at Strawbery Banke sometime.

I believe he has chosen the name Tributary Brewing Company.
Not that it matters, but I wonder what Kate will be called ? Besides delicious......

Blue Lobster is the best brewery in NH period.

Throwback is definitely making some interesting beers, along with some very solid straightforward, to-style beers like their schwarzbier, etc. But I think their most interesting beers are the ones made with unusual local ingredients, and my favorite beer of theirs is probably the Fennel Flower Stout, which has this wonderful, refreshing licorice-sort of flavor.

What I think is really great about the Seacoast beer scene right now, though, is that all the breweries have their own niche--it's not just a string of breweries with the same standard lineup. Throwback is brewing some creative beers based on the local "beeroir" as BA mag put it in a profile this month, Earth Eagle has some really unusual gruits, and Blue Lobster has nailed the hop-forward beers. Then you've got Portsmouth Brewery making beers across the board and serving as a killer brewpub (I hope 7th Settlement provides the same sort of atmosphere and range up the road when they open). Smuttynose, I think, is among the best regional breweries in the country, and their expanded short batch program is a great addition to the area. Even the more mainstream Redhook has some solid beers on at their brewpub and at a handful of bars in the area. Obviously Tributary will bring its own take to the area beer scene, and having a world-class RIS as a flagship (if that's still the plan) will be a very different niche.

Really excited for Throwback in the near future, everything is set for them to start moving/building the new farm/ brewery/event center. I think the new facility is going to put them a step above the rest. Also, their Rhubarb wit is RIDIC

I agree. Plus I think you may include Portland too as a great area for craft beer.
