Hate it, other than packing like a monster are there easier ways to sound proof a box? It cuts down on my ability to add extras which I like to do. I've had one box returned intact for shipping beer and about 30+ trades so far. Only one busted up box so far as well, can't make them completely gorilla proof. Other than foam/bubble wrap anything else out there to quiet it down without over compensating with an enormous box?

I just got a box that had a little plastic container of elbow macaroni in... Took me a few seconds to realize what it was for.

LOL that would work, along that line of thinking I bet baby toys would work too, they make a ton of noise.

Empty soda/beer can with 2 or 3 pennies in it, put tape over the hole.

What do you claim your shipping when they ask about the jingling coins?

The macaroni idea is not necessarily a good method. At the ups store it might be an effective method, but as a former UPS dock worker, I would sooner stop the progress of a package if it sounded broken, then to stop it because it had beer. Once the package leaves the store, nobody in the system gives a rats ass what's in the box unless it's broken.

I stopped thousands of boxes that sounded like broken glass, or macaroni, during my time at the UPS penitentiary.

A big fucking box of mind your own goddamn business. Seriously. Whenever I'm asked, I tell them it's none of their business.

Never had a box get opened once at fed ex store.

it actually is there business. By accepting the shipment they are taking responsibility for it. Not only to make sure it's safely transported, but also to make sure that it is properly labeled, and doesn't violate any DOT regulations.

I've telling them I'm shipping glass and such when they ask, sometimes they don't. i ship UPS, Fed Ex is the one that popped my box, but they don't have a red flag list, I've since shipped FX with no problems.

I always use FedEx now after ups asked and I said it was beer... I didn't know any better? FedEx never asks. I honestly didn't realize when I first starting trading that you couldn't ship beer. I don't understand how it's just restricted, not prohibited and I still can't ship it?

They can ship from vendors but not private citizens. It has to do with selling to minors, and who assumes responsibility.

I saw something about you can easily register with FedEx to be able to ship beer but your recipients have to be registered too? Has anyone seen this or looked into it.

The problem isn't 'precisely' that you and the shippee are both over 21. The kicker is that the 'man' isn't getting his taxes that are due when that beer crosses state lines. Someone with a license to ship and a licence to receive is paying taxes on both ends of the transaction even if they don't see it in their bill.

Furthermore say you followed all of the regulations, see the following: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/News/Nation/2004/alcohol-Policy.htm most states directly ban the practice even if you signed all the paperwork necessary with FedEx and its doubtful these policies will change until the way taxes on these goods is collected is overhauled.

I normally just pack mine real tight with a lot of foam from work and I never hear sloshing.

Using bottle shippers is the only way I've found to keep that sound from being heard (since they're standing upright)

The box within another padded box concept does a decent job too. More insulation = less audible noise. Packing extremely tight also. Less room to move=less sloshing when moved.

That may be, but I'm just pointing out that even after I tell them to mind their own business, they haven't opened a box yet.

Also, if it is their responsibility to make sure it is safely transported, they've fucked that up several times, including putting a forklift through one of my boxes.

Is a sloshing sound really a problem? I've received many. many packages with an audible sloshing sound with no problem. I just wonder how audible these sounds are in the outside environment and if the delivery people even pay attention to it. I've never added coins, macaroni boxes, etc and have shipped over 130 boxes with no problems. (Knock on wood)

Yeah. I didn't say they do it well. They're more concerned about the $10,000 fine for transporting unauthorized hazmat, then the $100 claim.

Most people who work at the stores don't have a clue about the transportation side, nor do they care.
