This is exactly what I am saying. At RR, you can try ALL of their beers for a very reasonable price and actually get a decent sample. They have some great beers on tap and at a very reasonable rate.

I do not get why these prices are as high as they are at JK. Maybe I am the minority here...

I knew when the laws changed, consumers would end up spending more....which is why I said for selfish reasons, I liked the old ways.

This is what we were fighting for people. Jester King (and other TX breweries) to actually make money selling beer at the brewery and be open multiple days a week. They aren't just giving it away anymore and I have no problem with that.

I do not have an issue with them charging "normal" prices for beer. If you change the ounces to a pint of beer, with the exception of Commercial Suicide and Petit Prince, an actual pint would cost anywhere from $6.50 to 14 dollars. 6.50 for Wychmaker which I can usually find for $5. I get they want to make money, but they are charging more for their beers than any bar in Austin that I know that sells their beer.

    Just my take on it.

From a tourism point of view, I think a sample tray of everything available is a great option for the first time visitor.

Why do we always complain even when we get what we want?

I would seriously buy an entire set of JK Teku glasses. Just saying - maybe expand the glassware selection as well, and take more of my money.

So Viking Metal will be one release and Atrial Rubicite will be another.

Do I drive up to Austin twice or hope there's still Viking Metal tasters when the AR release happens? Tough choice.

I remember back when beer geeks were laid back and supportive of breweries they liked.

Some of this bitching about what is actually a good thing makes me happy that you'll instead be at a bar while I'm drinking in Jester King's tap room.

I just went to visit the brewery and do the tour on Saturday and it was awesome!! I had never had any of there beers before and I got to try like 13 different beers. Loved it!! It was even better that Gov Perry had just signed the new Texas Craft Beer laws into effect and everybody was so jovial and alot of them poured you even more than the 2 oz norm.

I dunno whether that's fair, Rubio. I mean, I was expecting prices a little lower given the lack of markup from distributors and wholesalers, but I'm pretty okay with it given that it's going to a brewery run by people that I really like, and that makes such good beer. It has to be fair to talk about prices, though, and this thread is all about open discussion between the advocates and the people at the brewery--calling people worked up and unsupportive because they want to talk about a pretty big change that was recently made is at best unhelpful and at worst uncalled for.

I'll see you at the taproom at some point soon, though, I'm sure .

No, you have a point. I guess I wasn't completely clear. I'm not talking about everyone that is raising concerns. Hell, I've done it. I agree that talking about prices is cool. Whining like a child isn't.

My thing is that if you take the highest oz pour that they offer and round it to a pint, all the beers come in at the $6.50-12 range unless it is a 3% beer. That just seems steep for what they are offering. A couple, I am fine with, but it seems to me that they are pricing it too high to actually get people to go out there which is what they want.

All I'm thinking is that converting to being open so much more frequently can't come cheap. At all. Especially given their semi-remote location. Their barrel and coolship programs aren't cheap to run, either. I think that they'll be surprised by the amount of business they bring in, though... if I were still in Austin, I would totally come down at least once a week. Probably more.

I think that possibly because Jeff and his crew are so cool to us (even when we bitch about their place) that we forget that he is in business to make money not friends. If you don't like what they are doing, go somewhere else. If you don't like the prices, too bad. They have a product that many people want and they have every right to charge for it.
Congrats for the change in the beer laws Jeff, hope it allows you to buy a second coolship and keep the wilds flowing.

    Be friendly! :sunglasses:
