I did one of these a couple months ago where I wanted to send a bottle or two off to a veteran BA who has helped out some newer members on the forums. Leschkie ended up being the winner, but really I won because Kurtis is an awesome guy that I'm very happy to keep contact with and that I probably wouldn't have met at Dark Lord Day otherwise. Now, the tables have turned.

To enter: Veterans (2011 join date or older, or more active early 2012'ers), nominate a newer member of the community (join date of 2012 or 2013) who has just been an awesome BA. It doesn't have to be that they sent you a box of wales, but just someone who has demonstrated true advocacy. It can have to do with trading (stellar communication and a good trading relationship, hooking you up with a cool local release bottle, whatever) or have nothing to do with trading (hosting cool tasting events, doing something nice for another member of the community, etc.). The rules are pretty vague on purpose, I just want to see a bunch of good stories!

The prize: A surprise box that will try to hit on a couple of the winner's wants. Probably something in the range of 70-100oz, but it depends how long their want list is and what I can hit from it

This LiF Closes Friday, June 28th, and I will pick a winner sometime that weekend. The winner will be notified via BM, and their box will go out the following Monday. I'll also post the winner in the thread, and if they care to, they can post their haul. Not mandatory. Additionally, it is not mandatory that the winner start their own LIF. The idea is that they've already done something cool, so it's reward time! However...if they choose to start their own LIF, I'm not going to stop them

    Eligibility:

You are not eligible to win if:

    1. You are in my tasting group
    2. You have a 2011 join date or earlier, unless you've only recently become active. Honor system.
    3. You live outside the continental USA (sorry, international shipping is f'ing expensive)

You are not eligible to nominate if:

    1. You are in my tasting group nominating another member of said group. I know who you are.
    2. You have a join date in 2013 (no offense, this one is for you guys, I want one of you to win!)
    3. You are on the bad traders list (I doubt this is an issue, but I'm making it a rule)

Please only one nomination per person.

    LIF begins....now.

I would like to nominate BA Illy0sis.

I am currently winding down on my Sours for Dummies 2 BIF, which Illy0sis broke his BIF cherry. One of the participants in the BIF was from the UK and received a slightly average box but filled with beers that he can easily get where he is. Please dont get me wrong, his box was not a bunch of turds but he was looking forward to US sours beers and ended up with some common euro lambics. I privately BMd him that I would take care of him because he made a good case...when unprovoked, I received a BM from Illy0sis asking if he could do the same thing. Illy0sis heard the plea and wanted to take it upon himself to also pass along some US sours too.

The reason why I nominate him because this is Beer Advocacy at its finest...and coming from someone who has been on BA for less than six months with a selfless act to someone he has never talked to, traded with or met. He is a good dude and even if he doesn't win, he will at least get some well deserved love from the BA community.

E30todamax has been on rampage crushing my porch! he contacts me anytime anything potentially interesting comes out and sends out tons of great stuff. he packs super well and goes out of his way to get stuff for me. plus he has shared stuff I have sent him with others too. great advocate!

I would like to nominate steimie. Yes, he can be a bit of a sarcastic guy in the forums, but Brian blew me up in my first trade with him (we've become regular trading partners since). Then to top it all off, Brian invited me to his house shortly after I moved back up to Michigan for "a couple beers and to grill out". He then proceeded to open an Assassin and an '09 BA Speedway (!!!) among others, as well as feeding me wayyyyyy more than enough food. I couldn't have asked for a better welcome back to Michigan!

Speaking of Roon, that 2013'er LiF'd a KBBS to someone and only has completed a couple of trades. I believe that's enough to earn a nomination...

    Roon, you're in.

I'd like to nominate ThreeFishes. With a join date less than six months ago, he definitely knows what BA should be all about.
The first contact I had with him was when we were in the same BIF and he commented about picking something up for his box. I asked if he'd mind picking me up a glass as they don't have an online store. I offered a glass in return as well as a few beers to cover his shipping and time. When I got the glass, there was a mixed six pack as well, including 2 Zombie Dusts. Way above and beyond. A later trade was nicely stocked with extras including some of his awesome homebrew.
One of the participants in the BIF (I will refer to him as Ass-Clown) decided that it was better to receive than to give and never shipped. A number of other participants took it upon themselves to make it up to the person who got stiffed. Boxes with 2 or 3 or 5 or 6 beers started showing up an things were working out nicely. Then ThreeFishes donation arrived...

with more than enough to fulfill Ass-Clowns obligation all by itself.
I'm pretty sure that this is what BA is supposed to be about.

I actually like the place and send out their online stuff as extras...

Sorry--been using that term for years, probably not going to stop as it the perfect description--leaves nothing to the imagination.
How about douchenozzle? Someone used that recently and I liked the way it sounded--no doubt about how you feel when you call someone that. There isn't a Douchenozzle Brewing Company out there, is there?

Brian is mild mannered and demure! :stuck_out_tongue: I second his nomination! (so does the KRE from him in my cellar)!

I'm the guy roon LIF'd that KBBS to, so I have to double up and nominate him too!:grinning:

Jason, I wish to nominate johnyb.

This crazy son-of-a-bitch answered a trade request I put up a while back when I was in search of a Leon. Mind you I had never interacted with him before, and he ended up surprising me by sending me a 12-bottle shipper consisting of 2 Leon bottles, 2 Cognac Sweet Stout bottles, his last BB4D bottle, and all kinds of other crazy shit, including his delicious Orval homebrew clone.

Then he surprises me some time later and sends over a growler of RareR DOS so that me and my boys in CA could try it.

And then just after the birth of my son, he sends me a daddy package filled with insane beers for myself, fine chocolates for mommy, and clothes for my baby. I mean good god, way to make me feel like the rookie! Little does he know though, I have yet to unleash my greatest weapon against him. :stuck_out_tongue:

As the recipient of ThreeFishes' extraordinarily generous care package shown above, I'd like to second his nomination. He fulfilled my deadbeat sender's obligation on his own and then some, hit two really nice wants (the Cascade and Four Roses Eclipse) and boxed it all up like he was sending me a Faberge egg. He didn't need to send me anything and definitely didn't need to send me over 200 ounces of great beer, but he did. If that isn't advocacy, I don't know what is.

I know the rules said one nomination per person, but I'd just like to mention the other newer BAs in the BIF who sent me unsolicited boxes or helped in some way because they are also awesome people:
    1. texasdrugaddict (2012) - care package here.
    2. bcm75 (2013) - care package here.
    3. pattymelt (2013) - care package here.
    4. deltoro (2012) - rounded people up to send me boxes, hunted down and smoked my deadbeat sender out of his hole.
If you want to see great examples of advocacy, just start on page 54 of the BIF thread (ineligible BAs like zekeman, mborden and brownalemale sent amazing stuff too).

Dang. It's a beautiful thing when I'm having trouble abiding by the "nominate only one" thing. instantmessinger hit the nail on the head when he mentioned that the Cuzco's n00b BIF has been an absurd display of advocacy making up for (as zekeman17 so elegantly put it) "ass clown". And I'm in the middle of a trade with illy0sis and the dude is on the SPOT with communication and shipping faster than I could get my stuff out the door (and I tried to be pretty quick!). We did a locals-for-locals and he's made me REAL excited to see what is going to be in my box.

So I guess if I HAD to pick just one, I'd also throw my hat in for ThreeFishes, but that's not taking ANYTHING away from texasdrugaddict, bcm75, pattymelt, deltoro, Roon, or illy0sis. You all are pick 1.000000001, etc. Huzzah!
