Why do you drink beer?

I don't get drunk very often, but I do drink beer often. One or two will do on most days. For me it really is a sensory experience, not only for relaxing the mind and body, but for genuine enjoyment of the flavor, aroma, and mouthfeel. Great beer is a lot of fun to drink; it's exciting.

 

to stimulate the economy and (most of) it tastes good.

 

There's a Dr. Seuss book in there somewhere....

 

Because the prefrontal lobe of my brain that senses and interprets taste has been rewired over the years to associate the taste of beer with the intoxicating feeling it brings, therefore craving the taste alone (though the intoxication helps). Combined with the already learned taste for coffee (spawned from associating the bitter taste with caffeine), I now have an insatiable craving for powerful stouts.

And that's pretty much the honest truth of the matter.

because it's the 5th major food group and you want a well rounded diet don't you?

 

Beer is wonderful for its long history and cultural significance, its unique flavors, the ability to help you relax and interact with friends and family. It's also wonderful due to the pursuit of that next beer, and for the community of people here who love it.

Because I'm addicted to hops and I like to get a good buzz on with good company.

 

If I was only concerned with intoxication there are about a dozen cheaper, more effective, and less fattening ways I could go about messing myself up.

 

I do all that stuff too!!!!

 

My dog tells me to drink.

 

I drink the first one because it sounds good...really good.
I drink the second one because the first one was so good.
I drink the third one because the first two made me feel nice, and if two is good, then three is better, right?
I drink the fourth one for pretty much the same reason as the third one.
I drink the fifth one because I have these full kegs of homebrew, but I have carboys full of beer that is ready to keg up, but I gots no empty kegs to put that beer that's ready to be kegged into. *hiccup*
I drink the sixth one cuz that makes a 6-pack and I win!
I drink the seventh one because by this point my wife is asleep on the couch, and I should be going to bed but have convinced myself that I can't fall asleep with just a 6-pack buzz, so I drink the seventh.
I drink the eighth one because it sounds good...really good.

And so goes a typical Tuesday evening.

 

...because it touches me in all the right places.

 

Look, I'm f^!#ing awesome, but beer makes me more awesome!

Because I'm a sad and lonely old man.
