I not a really into sour but I am started to get into a few and notice that they tend to cost a few more dollars than everything else. Why is that?

Because of the extensive process to make them.

Aging to develop the sour flavor from the yeast. It is not uncommon for them to be aged atleast a year. Put the pricing on par with your favorite barrel aged beers and you will see its usually reasonable

Sours are expensive for the same reason divorce is.

Btw, what ones are you getting into? I'm assuming you should have some jester king and some boulevard love child in your area. Love child was delicious, but no jk sours out this way. Russian river sours are very good and worth trading for if you want to try more world class sours

New Belgium more than likely distributes to your area. Check out La Folie to a reasonably priced exposure.

Being that sours are my absolute favorite, I am constantly broke. Stay away my friend, stay away.

First sour in a can = sign of the apocalypse.

    Rodenbach is sold in cans.

Partially they are more expensive to make & partially because brewers figured out they can charge ridiculous prices fort hem. Lambic & oud bruin brewers ask only a fraction for their products compared to what most brewers ask for sours in USA.

Unfortunately with sours you have to pay to play.

At $14+ a bomber, I don't think La Folie is reaonably priced for not being very good anymore. Easy to find maybe, worth it, not so much. Try Rodenbach Grand Cru, Petrus Aged Pale, or Lindemans Cuvee Rene in the bang for your buck sour category.

Seriously beer nerds, if we were that concerned about price we would have stuck with Schlitz and Bud. You pay for quality. It's like a luxury tax for your taste buds. I don't mind paying that extra couple bucks (or ten for that matter) to drink something good.
