I think KDS came out this or next week last year. I haven't heard about an upcoming release. Is there going to be a 2013 batch? Perhaps it was a one-off--the ultimate in rare...
You're right about last year. No idea if it's slated for 2013, but Fremont tends not to release beers until they feel they're ready, schedule be damned. Just look at Old Bridge Rider. Would be great if Texwild chimed in here w/ any info.
They supposedly were bringing KDS to the Brewers festival as one of their rotating beers, unfortunately I never saw it on Friday or Saturday. So I assume they brewed it again this year??
I had a pour of KDS at the Brewer's festival late Saturday afternoon. No idea on whether it was a new batch.
Fremont's website makes no mention of KDS being a yearly offering like Bourbon Abominable, so I wouldn't assume anything. And yeah, I had KDS at the festival as well. No mention of being a new batch.
I didn't enjoy KDS as much as B-bomb. I wish they swap out the base beer to an imperial stout or something with more substance.
Thanks for the interest. We have many barrels of 2013 KDS for release in October, if its ready. Like the 2010 Bbomb, a straight blended barrel version of Abominable Ale (8%) as opposed to later versions (bumped to 11% or so), we released the first KDS as a straight blended barrel version of regular Dark Star. The reason we do this is to get a feel for how the base beer interacts with the barrel in order to amend the later, higher ABV, versions which will be better suited to laying down and developing the complexity and subtle layering of favors typical of higher ABV beers aged in barrels. Beer is patience in a glass...fish, hiking, and Mary Jane notwithstanding . 2013 KDS will be around 12% ABV and is Dark Star but this one goes to 11. We are excited to see what happens this year and owe many thanks to all of you, one of our members notwithstanding, for your continued support and love. Now, we shall let the wood and beer speak for itself.
