Everyone else is saying they're getting theirs tomorrow, has anyone seen it outside of downtown specs?

Not putting any effort into this one. Too hard to get and seriously doubt it will be that good. Also $14 a bottle for this one is ridiculous.

It's apparently the most limited of the fun series beers.

eh I only need one-two bottles for my regular trade partner. My world won't come to an end if I can't try this beer. But if someone wants to bring one to Nobi... Well that would be dandy

I think you hit the nail on the head. FUN 005 showed that pricing on these beers far outpaces the quality.

I think that local breweries need to look at their pricing strategies on Barrel Aged (and bomber sized in general) beers. Yes it costs more, but no way a bomber of any Karbach Beer should cost $9 or should barrel aged versions cost $15.

I love their beers, but those price points are crazy for what we are getting.

and yet they fly off the shelves at these points.

prices wont come down, until the consumer stops purchasing at the higher prices.

edit: which is obvious. we can either speak with our dollars, or bitch on the internet :grinning:

Just put it this way. At the cost of barnburner was for a 6 pack, it would cost $3 to put it in a bomber. Maybe add another $1 for the glass ware. So thats $4. Really don't think the cost of a wine barrel can offset that $10. Already sold out at Specs tells me that no one really cares. I'll just get a glass of this on tap somewhere.

    I agree.

This is why the craft beer boom is a problem and will eventually cause a lot of breweries to either adjust or go out of business. Eventually the consumer will decide to drink better beers at lower prices and there will need to be a choice made.

I think we already see enough dusty 8+ month old IPAs sitting on the shelf as it is. Eventually this will be other beers too.

Sadly it will take way too long as traders will seek locals and trade for them even if they aren't very good.

    I choose to bitch!!! :grinning:

I bet you wouldn't complain if it eventually comes back down to earth.

I fully see both sides to this story and won't blame anyone for their choice.

I just feel like breweries know this and are taking advantage of the situation. I just hope we don't see fly by night type businesses like is often seen trying to capitalize on the hottest fad.

I got 2 bottles at spec's this morning.... however I tend to agree with the sentiment that $30 for two bombers is a little ridiculous.

It's right up there with a $10 Bishops barrel...

I think what you're seeing is our local breweries taking advantage of the fact that there isn't a lot of barrel aged brews coming to Houston from out of state or out of market. The fact that the majority of what actually does come from out of state winds up in Austin and Dallas. And take that in conjunction with booming economy here in Houston (compared to the rest of the country or even state) means they can charge more.

I am excited to try, however, at that price point I doubt I'll seek out any more than the 2 bottles I bought this morning... unless the stuff is BBA hellfighter good....

i know it's available at the brewery on the 4th, but does anyone know if it's available tonight for the brews cruise? i just want to try a pint, not hunting for a bomber of this.

Specs at 290 & Jones just got theirs. Only 2 cases so it is limit 1. Also heard they dropped a case during delivery so this became even more limited.

I don't mind spending more money for good beers, especially local/limited/barreled. I drink a lot of Karbach beers so I trust them enough to buy a higher priced bomber. There are definitely some breweries that I would think twice about at that price though.

Of course, I wouldn't complain if the prices came down as long as quality is still there. Plus there isn't a craft beer monopoly keeping prices high, so if beer drinkers as a community stopped paying the current prices, the prices would eventually come down.

Also agree that dropping 15 on this was difficult, but I did not want to miss out if it is exceptional. If things do not change I may stop doing this. Especially when you can get things like RuinTen and Enjoy By for half the price.
