Hello wonderful people I'm hoping to make a really quick stop Wednesday so I can scoot over to Bangor in time for Phish's tour opener. Would folks who have been there (HF, not Phish) be so kind as to chime in about which of the following they'd personally rather fill their growlers with? I personally love all of the styles below:

    • Edward: American Pale Ale 5.2% abv ($7/$15)
    • Abner: American Double Pale Ale 8% abv ($10/$18)
    • Susan: IPA 6.2% abv ($8/$16)
    • What is Enlightenment? American Pale Ale with Amarillo and Simcoe hops 5% abv ($7/$15)
    • Walden: Hop Forward Session Ale. 4% abv. ($7/$15)
    • Everett: Robust American Porter 7.5% abv. ($8/$16) [can get in bottles]

Although I did also get Susan last week and enjoyed it.

First of all, if this is today's selections, your selection may be different by Wednesday. In fact, Walden wasn't listed 5 min. ago when I checked. As far a a really quick stop, have you ever been there? It's in the middle of nowhere and not that easy to find. Also, I know it gets really busy on weekends but I don't know about weekdays.

But personally, I would pick Abner & Enlightenment. But I'm a hophead.

You might also want to slide over to Waterbury and pick up some Heady.

Abner and Susan are outstanding. Hopefully Enlightenment kicks and you can get your hands on some S&S 5, which is amazing as well.

I agree with the prior recs for Abner. They do offer a 4-beer tasting, so if you have at least some time (particularly if there's a line), definitely take advantage of that.

Abner is a must, so really you're just choosing 2nd.

SS # 5 is the best beer I've ever had and it's not close. I'd suggest waiting like 2-3 days and make sure that's on, and then get it. Lots of it.

But, really, there is no wrong decision here. Bring mulez and get them all! Lots of each!

Thanks for the quick replies, peoples. BA rules.

So it's Abner, clearly. I can only get a couple since I'll be on the road for a week. Gonna stick 'em in the cooler and enjoy them while camping. And yes, I'll be hitting Waterbury the day before. I'm guessing there won't be much bonanza at the Warren Store on a Tuesday, but I think I'll be in the neighborhood, so might as well take a peek.

Yes, you should try the Warren Store so you can say you completed the Triple Play, Triple Crown or Triple anything you want to call it.

When I visit the brewery on Friday, I'm getting Abner and Everett in bottles. Not sure about anything else though. I've never tried any HF brews, but the reviews for Abner seem to say that it's undeniably delicious. Save some for me!

Abner for sure but I'm suprised no one is mentioning Edward. Maybe its too obvious because its they're flagship but its amazing, especially if you've never had any HF before. Susan is damn good as well, really can't go wrong at HF.

Edit: Didn't see what is enlightenment on the list, another one of my favs from them, good luck deciding:wink:

HF doesn't bottle their hoppy beers, so you won't be getting Abner in bottles. Might be worth checking the website to see if Everett is currently on the shelves as well.

Also, there's really no such thing as a quick stop at HF. Best case scenario, be ready to be there for 30 to 45 minutes. Most likely it'll be a fair amount more than that on a holiday weekend with limited releases on the shelves.

Yes, I actually meant just Everett in bottles. I checked the site and Everett is still available. Hopefully both will still be available on Friday.
