A place near me has a steak & ale night, yet all they serve are lagers

The one by me in Watertown, MA actually had a decent selection when I've gone. Nothing crazy mind you but more choices than I'd expected.

The Miller's by me has a large selection that is mostly the BMC faux craft, but I've seen Stone Arrogant Bastard, Sierra Nevada Torpedo, and other pretty solid stuff. Nothing jaw dropping and the staff isn't knowledgeable about the taps, but I usually get a decent beer when I've gone.

The "___ Ale House" closest to me is a great place to order pretty un-crafty beer and pick up a great black eye.

I was going to say the same thing, the service is bad (friendly but real slow) but the food is pretty good and the beer selection is decent.

Good news. I will now refer to the room where my beer fridge is as "The Ale Room". But it's just words. There's a restaurant in the town where I live called "The ChopHouse" and promotes itself as a steakhouse. But there are no chops on the menu and chicken parmiagana is on the menu. Went there once. Never again.

I always make sure when shopping at a Mom & Pop store to check and make sure the owners actually have children.

The mislabeled "Ale House" doesn't really bother me as much as the "3 dollar domestics" sign and then being told that "Goose Island isn't considered a Domestic, we mean Bud, Miller or Coors" - EXCUSE ME - did Germany annex Chicago and I missed it?

The complete lack of understanding what the term "DOMESTIC" actually means bugs me. It is really my only pet peeve in the craft beer/bar industry. I know why/how they justify it but it still pisses me off. Not just Goose Island but anything decent.

I agree. Perhaps we should all bookmark dictionary.com on our phones and show them definition #5: 5. indigenous to or produced or made within one's own country; not foreign; native: domestic goods

Nope, I've been to two establishments with "ale house" in their name. They both had a really nice selection of ales. However, despite the name they were not houses, they were more like bars/pubs/restaurants I was very disappointed when I noticed this.

You would think someone from "Rhode Island" would be a bit used to names misrepresenting places.

This happens in Boston/Mass with people ordering a "IPA" and getting a Harpoon IPA. Harpoon is on tap almost everywhere, and in crappy bars is usually the only IPA, so I can see how that happens. Weird, though.

Also: Amesbury Ale House is great, getting back on topic.

I guess I'm a little spoiled, as the "Ale Houses" out this way are Dogfishhead Ale Houses. They usually have some pretty decent beer
