I don't know about you, but without the option to build a mix six pack I don't think my drinking career would be the same. My local shop prices every single beer that comes in individually so I am never stuck with a four or six pack of something I don't like.

So basically I just wanted to say thanks to all the shops that give us this option, do we pay a little more for singles? Sure. Is it better than being stuck with beer you might not like? Absolutely.

Does your local shop offer mix sixers? Is it for everything or do they just have a mix six section?

Yeah I can buy a mix a 6, though rarely ever do this. Just not that many beers that come in 4/6 packs that I want to drink. Most beers I want to drink come in bombers, of the beers that do come in 4 packs that I want to drink I have no issue buying a 4/6 pk.

A few stores offer 10% discount for mix and match 6-packs. if the shop has a good selection of single bottles I will m+m. if, like most shops, they have a bad selection or an old selection, which most do - i will not m+m.

I think that I would surely miss the mixed sixpack. It's a shame that a lot of establishments will put all their expired beer into the mix six pack section. They are stabbing themselves in the foot if you ask me. I may have bought a six pack of what was in that section, but because it was expired and the date mysteriously blurred, it tasted like garbage juice and so you can keep it always.

The sixpack is two beers too many for just tasting and 3 beers too few for really enjoying a beer you really like.

I have 2 go-to shops for mixed six packs, and one gives a 10% discount (awesome!) and lets you snag any bottle that comes in a 4/6 pack to put in yours, even if it's not actually on the singles shelf at the moment. The other store doesn't have the discount, and you're at the mercy of whatever the staff puts into the singles section, and it's been mostly the same lately. That said, sometimes they have stuff in that the other store doesn't. The last time I bought a normal 6-pack from my corner store, the beer was awful, so I'll be playing it safe with singles for a while.

So you end up with a mixed six pack of beers you don't like?

I don't know what I'd do without it either.. 99.9% of the beers I buy are singles and there is no mininum/maximum to how many you must purchase. I guess it's something I take for granted since I believe there are places and/or states that don't have this option..

I love the mix six. I have been moving more towards bombers though, or I buy a single 12oz. I don't buy a true mix six that often anymore.

Without the ability to buy a mixed 6'er (and get a discount at some places), I would be no where near where I am today in my passion for craft beer. Committing to a 6'er of one beer, without trying it first, is a stretch for me. Being able to buy one bottle makes it easy to find what I like/dislike.

On a side note, I am also grateful for the BA ratings my store puts under each individual beer. To be honest, I trust the ratings here more than I do RateBeer as almost everything is in the upper 90's.

Many stores do put the expired beers on their singles shelf but there's no reason why you can't grab a fresh single out of a 4 or 6 pack and buy that one if that beer is offered. It's in the system as a single and will ring up the same as the expired beer. I don't see that as screwing the store over, if they are trying to sell you expired beer to begin with. And I usually end up just buying 2 or 3 singles off the mix a six shelf as there normally is not a good enough selection at most stores to fill up a six pack.

Great point about old beer in the mix a six. I never understood why the greedy bastards would want to hamstring their first introductions like that. They obviously are neither scholars nor gentlemen.

I love buying singles, but unless stores are giving a discount for buying 6, please stop referring to your singles section as a mix-a-six section.

Doesn't make you a bad guy at all. Just makes you smarter than they are and a better consumer.

They do that in the hopes you'll buy 6 so they can unload some unwanted inventory. Supermarkets do the same thing, offering a product at 3 for $6 but they are still $2 a piece if you buy them individually but you'd be surprised at how many people are buying the 3.

I just hate passing the bad beer buck onto the guy who actually commits himself to the Racer Five. All said and done, I still sleep pretty soundly...

I don't generally buy enough singles at one time to make a six-pack but it is certainly a convenience to be able to buy a couple of singles of something new and different. I have saved a few bucks by not purchasing 4 or 6 when it turns out I don't like the new and different stuff.

How about the mix six at the grocery store? Just grab what you want and hit up the U-Scan. No one really checks.

I'm a big fan of the mix six packs. Around me some stores have a set price pack and other stores have individually priced. Its a great way for a person to start trying a few different styles or breweries. I use them mainly to try all the new seasonals from each brewery.

I didn't say to replace the expired single in the 6 pack where you are taking the fresh one, just take the fresh one and eventually the store will get the fact that we want fresh beer, single or not. Not to mention this will force them to put the rest of the fresh ones out on the single shelf.
